I felt like I could relate to both of the main characters. The characters had to adapt to huge changes in their lives and learn how to overcome huge mistakes. I was impressed with the genuine ideas involved in creating a new world patterned after earth. I liked how the author showed how important family is in making it through hard times. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a clean and entertaining read. There is good battles, fights, a little romance, all of it suspenseful.

Devon Stanley just got the ultimate job, but only by means of deceit. Her degree from MIT is in theoretical astrophysics, but it is a fraud. Most anywhere this wouldn't have been a problem, due to the expertise of the forged documents; however Devon had taken a position with a defense contractor. When her superiors found out, she was facing prison time. There was one saving grace for her though; that she had very quickly grasped the startling new theory of the super fluidity of time-space. This saved her from a felony conviction, but now she was completely at the mercy of the powers that be. Seeing how she was totally expendable, they used her as such. It turned out that it wasn't such a bad deal though, as Devon soon found herself thrust into the midst of the greatest secret of all. Little did she know just how big of a role she would play in the future of humanity.

By Donnie Adkins When you start reading this book you notice that each chapter takes place in 3 different countries and in multiple cities in the USA so in the back of your mind you are trying to figure out how this will all come together. Each chapter draws you in more and more while trying to figure out how the author will connect the dots. Then all of a sudden it all fits together. I love reading books that draw you into the story. This one certainly does that! It's a tough book to put down once you start reading and for someone that only reads before going to bed it caused some very tired mornings but it was worth it! Great book!

BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS is Book 5 in the exciting postapocalyptic series, THE NEW WORLD. War! All Gordon Van Zandt wanted was to find a safe place for his family to settle down after civilization came to an abrupt end following the detonation of a super-EMP over North America. Through hardship and loss he found a sanctuary in the mountains of Idaho; however, the realities of the new world again come crashing down when his brother, Sebastian, is murdered by a deranged U.S. Army officer hell-bent on crushing a secessionist movement Gordon had no part of. Forced to take sides in a conflict he sought to avoid, he comes to realize that if his family is to have peace, he'll have to go to war to secure it. With revenge in his heart and an army at his disposal, he goes on the offensive against the very country he once swore an allegiance to defend. President Conner's forceful determination to prevent the country from fracturing only hastened it. Faced with all-out war against the newly formed Republic of Cascadia in the Northwest and with other secessionist movements gaining steam, he discovers he's an isolated man with few options for victory. War is hell and now many will find out how true that is. THE NEW WORLD SERIES: THE END THE LONG ROAD SANCTUARY THE LINE OF DEPARTURE BLOOD, SWEAT & TEARS

This novel starts in the year 2066 with a gathering of friends and family. And, then a flashback to the year 2015 to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. The novel evolves and covers multiple action fronts. This book has an emphasis on family throughout. And, not just the relationship based on a blood family but also the brothers-in-arms family that the military creates. Bonds are forever in both types of family.Gordon's idea concerning the problems in the US hit the nail on the head. The moral decay of society coupled with a lack of skills are what he blamed for the decline. All in all, a most interesting read full of action and twists and turns. To friends, family and a toast to the future! Semper Fi.Most highly recommended.

By Amazon Customer If you have not read any of the other parts of the Van Zandt stories you should probably go ahead and read those before picking this guy up. This book moves the story along very well. There are many twists that I for one did not see happening. The Van Zandt will to keep trucking does get questioned which is an odd moment. Granted it shows that he is a human and not a robot. His run-ins on the road are unexpected. I am a fan of Mr. Hopf's work and lets say this did not disappoint. Also really with the cliffhanger's. I can only assume 2 things from the "CALL" ...........Can't wait for the next installment. Yah I read it in a few hours and wish it was longer but that's me being greedy.

It was great to see the continuous development of such great characters, and the realism of the situations in it. What I love about this series, is that everything that happens in the novel could very well happen in real life. Great job Mr. Hopf! Im looking forward to more!

Beneath the gleaming new economies of South-East Asia there exists an underworld of transgression, vice and rampant corruption. Abandoning a recession-plagued America for the easy money of Asia's lucrative but highly illegal boiler room industry, Don Rouse must navigate through a sordid world of drug addicts, deviants, prostitutes and professional con men in order to achieve his lifelong dream of making it big. But his world is suddenly turned upside down as the police show up and his boss goes missing. After a chance meeting with the alluring but enigmatic Jessica, Don is plunged into a high stakes mystery that could very well put an end to his criminal career and perhaps even his life. From the fleshpots of Bangkok to the gritty streets of Manila, John Triptych’s debut novel sheds a new light on the little known world of organized international crime. The Opener (Expatriate Underworld Book 1), by John Triptych

Review Review Rating:5 stars (*****)Reviewed By Ray Simmons for Readers' FavoriteThe Opener by John Triptych is an exciting novel dealing with the kind of white collar crime depicted in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The Opener is about crime and greed, and how far people will go to win. Don Rouse is an easy-going young man raised in Kansas, Detroit, and finally Hollywood, California. Don is raised by a somewhat indifferent single mom, but he is a likable kid and for me a very sympathetic character. He tries hard and even manages to finish college, but the economy hits rock bottom and finally, with some help from a friend, he lands up teaching English in China. The setting changes often in The Opener because it's a very fast paced read and the characters run from everything - the law, each other, love, even success. The Opener is a very good fast read. I found that I couldn't put it down for long because I wanted to know what would happen to Don next. Would he get the girl? Would he get the money? Or is he forever doomed to get the shaft? John Triptych has written a novel that is fun to read and meant to be read fast. The locales where most of the crime and action take place are familiar to me. John Triptych describes life in China, Thailand, and the Philippines with the voice of someone who has been there. If you are even slightly interested in the life of ex-pats in Asia, read The Opener.

Impressive piece of work By Amazon Customer I love the book, i lived in southeast asia for quite a many years and this book reflects quite a bit of what i experienced and observed there, it does bring about a good sense of nostalgia in me....Definitely some of the contents are too graphic and disturbing for some, but its written well with excellent dialogue styles if not a bit offensive for some. It also provides a rare perspective , that is from a criminals point of view, instead of the classical moral hero's pov.... All in all, a must read

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Dark, catchy story By Simón Gómez This is a good, entertaining book. The plot is not too complex and you're not gonna find impressive life-changing characters but it's really easy to go through and will likely give you a good run for your money. I loved the sordid setting and dark story too, good purchase overall.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Telemarketing tale is tops By Don Sloan Don Rouse has had his fill of dead-end jobs and failed relationships. Now, if he can only score that easy money that he knows is out there, just waiting for him, he'll be set. This is the well-written story of Don's search for that financial windfall, set against the exotic backdrops of China, The Philippines, and a corruption-ridden Thailand. The narrative, which is terse but compelling, begins with Don and his brother escaping a dysfunctional, hard-luck life in Kansas. Don, with the moral support of a long-time girlfriend, eventually bootstraps himself into a four-year degree, just as the U.S. economy tanks. Desperate for a change of scenery and a new start, he heads to Shanghai to teach English as a Second Language. For awhile, things go well enough for him to get by, but the seedy accommodations he's forced to endure lead him to a crossroads in his young life: where is he going, and how will he get there? At loose ends, he travels to Thailand for a brief holiday with his coworkers.Enter ex-pat Otis and a hulking Brit named Finny, who talk Don into staying in Bankok when his friends -- including yet another long-term girlfriend -- are returning to their ESL jobs in Shanghai. This is where he learns to be an Opener -- someone who spends his days in a vast warren of cubicles, phoning people all over the world and trying to sell bogus stocks and options.Things go well, and Don is just starting to really get the hang of it when the shop's owner misses his scheduled payoff to Thai police and they arrive one day like storm troopers to close the place down. Don escapes through a window, drifts around a bit, then jets off to Manila, where he once again tries a fresh start -- this time with a woman he has met by chance in a bazaar. Her name is Jessica.Events begin to unfold in rapid-fire fashion once Don lands in the Philippines. For one, he discovers some very rough customers are looking for him, with the idea that he set up the raid on the Bangkok office. Then, he gets an even bigger surprise -- one that completely turns the plot upside down and sideways.I won't give away what happens the rest of the way. Suffice to say that this book was written by someone with very intimate knowledge -- or great research -- of how these "boiler room" operations work, bilking money from people all over the world by phone. They justify their actions by saying that if the poor saps they contact aren't giving their money to them, they would be giving it to someone else. The main character, Don, generates a fair amount of sympathetic vibes, so the reader begins to care what happens to him -- and plenty does, not all of it good. But by the time the book is over, you'll never trust a telemarketer again.I give The Opener five stars as a real page-turner -- particularly toward the end as plotlines converge and a mystery is solved satisfactorily. Kudos to the author for writing a convincing who-dun-it, wrapped as the memoir of a self-serving con artist. May I never have to work as an Opener -- in this life or the next.
