It is innovative and keeps the reader wondering what will happen next as the story line twists and turns into unexpected but delightful reading. Based on a true event, Cat finds herself hired to find the truth in the deaths of two wives of a man who collected nearly $5,000,000 in insurance pay offs. As Cat delves deeper into the two deaths, it becomes more and more clear that these deaths were, in actuality, murders. Cat unravels enough to get the police involved again. The events unfold to a most unexpected conclusion. This is really a fast- paced and enjoyable book from a talented author. Just read for the story line, not for the accuracy of the actual accuracy in character development. The main character tends to change too much from an educated, refined lady to an almost "gutter-trash talking" female. This character needs more thought and consistency in her development.

One of the cleverest things Mr. Wallace has achieved is to keep his series chronologically accurate. The book picks up after bikini baristas, which is book 4 in the Ted Higuera Series. The narrative is skillful and the plot has a fantastic twist at the end. No mysteries to solve but the action is strong and you are in the driving seat as Catrina Flaherty solves the case. No fancy technology here besides illusions to Ted's sunglasses and no convenient physical security violations to bring things to a head. I was hoping for a boat chase but the twist at the end made up for that.

However, I was very surprised at how short it was. I checked it against the previous books of yours that I have read and found that the previous books were much longer. I would consider the latest one a Novella, and I don't buy Novellas.I found a number of typos, but it is very difficult to type read an electronic book. It is much easier to do it with a paper copy, where you can note the mistakes right on the copy. That being said, a couple I noted are as follows:In a meeting with Cat's people You say "Brody came in the first time before right the timber incident...." It should read right before.In Cat's confrontation with Barrett, she tried to step out of his way and bring smash the baton... It should be either bring or smash - not both.On the next page your say "Catrina dodged slammed the palm of his hand..." It should read dodged and slammed.As I said before it was an interesting and good read.Robert Parshall

Sabrina Devonshire is masterful at weaving plot development with character development, while at the same time describing a faraway setting in a way that literally takes you there.Three Navy SEALS rendezvous on a Greek island for a wedding. The exotic setting (the Island of Lefkada) speckled with Alpha males built like Greek gods, add a couple beautiful females, you’ve got all the ingredients for romantic intrigue in paradise. But this is not just a love story between Navy SEALS, a CIA agent, and a journalist, it is also a thriller. Terrorists interrupt the party, targeting one of the women, which sets the SEALS into action.This is one of those books you pick up and read in one sitting—it takes you that quickly. I found myself lost in the story, and then it ended, and I was sad because I wanted more.

I ask you, who doesn't love a wedding? Especially one that is teaming with hot, alpha heroes and drop-dead sexy heroines. Only this ceremony is a little different as some uninvited, evil guests arrive and a kidnapping ensues. That's when things really heat up. As with the other three books in the series, this author's vivid descriptions of scenery and locale makes the reader feel as if they are living inside the story with the characters. The steamy love scenes will make you sweat and leave you breathless. If you're looking for a perfect literary package of intrigue, suspense, passion and romance, look no further than Greek God.

Science fiction with fascinating revelations of sentients in different levels of the multiverses By WIT The final book in this unique science fiction series lives up to the promise of the other books, an easy read with fascinating twists and alien characters. We follow the Soul-Bond of Tamsarandem and their sons in the colony on Terranue. Their story twists and reechoes through different layers of the parallel universes. We meet sentient inhabitants of different levels in the universes. New soul-bonds are formed and lives intertwine and separate. Overseeing their progress, the shepherd Pane and the sentient computer MaryBell calculate the probabilities and nudge the outcome towards the Path of Light, often with unpredictable results.I received an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

Fullington This was easily the best book of the series and goes along to explain and wrap up the lives of the characters. We see the second son of the soul-bound threesome as an adult. He's grown into his role as a leader and must set out to save his family and entire planet...with a little help from his friends.Sojourn becomes the only person who can keep the Path of Light on track when a jealous God is out to cause chaos to happen. I loved the humor of Ms. O'Connor which shows through in this book but really it was her emotion evoking characters that made this a book I couldn't put down! I can't wait to read more about these wonderful characters.

The genre is so overplayed that it is difficult to find a book with different perspective. J.R. Jackson has achieved this perspective and more with Up From the Depths: Denial Measures. This epic tale is grippingly told from the viewpoints of several different characters, all of whom you will fall in love with instantly, praying that they will, in fact, survive. Or you’ll hate them and want them eviscerated. Packed with everything you want in a novel about the zombie apocalypse; action, violence, infected, weapons, and military units, Denial Measures doesn’t disappoint. Prepare to be entertained.

12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Well Worth the Time Investment By Mike V. Sure, Up From the Depths is a zombie novel. There's the usual hordes of the dead, people trying to survive an event their unprepared for, and so on. Yeah, this is a zombie book, but it's a hell of a lot more than that.Think of a zombie novel written by Tom Clancy. Think Day By Day Armageddon but with a cast of hundreds and action by the bucket load.I'm not going to try to summarize the plot here, but suffice it to say that there's a lot of undead, a race to uncover just what the hell is happening, shadowy dealings, and feats of daring do to keep you fired to the page.The writing is good - there's ample description, good word choice and it's well edited by most reasonable standards. The pacing is good with chunks of action thrown in amongst lengths of exposition a and dialogue. For the eagle eyed, there's plenty of fun little "Easter eggs" thrown in throughout.Furthermore, Jackson is a veteran and his command of military lingo, acronyms, tactics/SOP is phenomenal. If you're like me and you roll your eyes at the typical zombie novel where a soldier talks about shooting their .22 caliber M16 rifle from the hip, you'll find the authenticity of this book a real breath of fresh air. For the uninitiated (or even the old hand in some cases), there's a beefy glossary in the back to guide you along.The characters are many and varied though "screen time" depends on the character. Some are funny, some are serious, some are realistic, while style are a little more fantastical. None of them goes beyond the pale in terms of believability and most are very entertaining.Now for my quibbles. First, the number of characters precludes getting to know a lot of them on a deep level. You may have to keep a pad of paper many to keep the huge cast straight.Second, this is a series book. For some this might be a turn off in and of itself. Otherwise, this book is very much a set up for the rest of the stores. It's a great read, but it can feel like there is a lot of irons in the fire.But the juice is well worth the squeeze. The series is epic in scope and extremely entertaining. Book 1 is a great set up, and fun to read on it's own, but it also presages a much larger and jaw dropping zombie series.

Amazing Beginning to an Unforgettable Series By Joy Killar Right now, at this moment I challenge you to read "Up From the Depths: Denial Measures" and by doing so I believe you will thank me. I say this for two reasons. First, J.R. Jackson writes to elevate the reader to his intelligence level, he does not lower his standards or dumb down his writing. He writes with intelligence and he is extremely knowledgeable about his subject matter. J. R. Jackson’s tactical and military knowledge is so superior to that which is being written anywhere else at this time that upon reading this novel you will have a far better grasp of military technical terms and operations than when you began reading, and ultimately you will understand what it would really take to survive a zombie apocalypse. There may be times you need to refer to the included glossary and that is okay. That is what a glossary is for; it is a learning experience and when you have finished reading "Up From the Depths: Denial Measures" you will look back and feel as though you have completed a journey. I believe that is a critical aspect of this novel. “Book 1: Denial Measures” is merely the first step in this epic journey as we are compelled through an amazing cast of characters’ quest for survival in books 2-6. There is no doubt that "Up From the Depths: Denial Measures" is every bit the epic masterpiece it sets out to be, and Book 1 is just the teaser. Thank you, Mr. Jackson for believing in our intelligence and for providing the genre with this unforgettable series!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR John Thomas Edson was born at Worksop, Nottinghamshire, on February 17 1928, the son of a miner who was killed in an accident when John was nine. He left Shirebrook Selective Central School at 14 to work in a stone quarry and joined the Army four years later. As a sergeant in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, Edson served in Kenya during the Emergency, on one occasion killing five Mau Mau on patrol. He started writing in Hong Kong, and when he won a large cash prize in a tombola he invested in a typewriter. On coming out of the Army after 12 years with a wife and children to support, Edson learned his craft while running a fish-and-chip shop and working on the production line at a local pet food factory. His efforts paid off when Trail Boss (1961) won second prize in a competition with a promise of publication and an outright payment of £50. The publishers offered £25 more for each subsequent book, and with the addition of earnings from serial-writing for the comic Victor, Edson was able to settle down to professional authorship. When the comic's owners decided that nobody read cowboy stories any more, he was forced to get a job as a postman (the job had the by-product of enabling him to lose six stone in weight from his original 18). Edson's prospects improved when Corgi Books took over his publisher, encouraged him to produce seven books a year and promised him royalties for the first time. In 1974 he made his first visit to the United States, to which he was to return regularly in search of reference books. He declared that he had no desire to live in the Wild West, adding: "I've never even been on a horse. I've seen those things, and they look highly dangerous at both ends and bloody uncomfortable in the middle. My only contact was to shoot them for dog meat." His heroes were often based on his favourite film stars, so that Dusty Fog resembled Audie Murphy, and the Ysabel Kid was an amalgam of Elvis Presley in Flaming Star and Jack Buetel in The Outlaw. Before becoming a recluse in his last years, JT's favourite boast was that Melton Mowbray was famous for three things: "The pie, Stilton cheese and myself but not necessarily in that order."

Part of a series, but as a stand alone book it's just crap. Unless you are a shallow male who likes sex and absolutely tedious descriptions of everything--from clothing to livestock to guns-- doesn't know good writing from bad, save your money.

The action sequence captures the imagination and holds the reader's attention. I appreciated learning about the majestic monkey eating eagles, their habits and habitat. At times, the language can seem a bit pedantic and not fitting with the age of the young characters, and some of the narrative is repetitive. However, this is an entertaining read and am sure that the author will continue to grow in his voice and style.

Central High's entire marching band had been aboard the flight Thirty-two well-loved, happy boys and girls had perished in front of their parents. The early morning weather was crisp and beautiful. How did this happen? The mystery was solved the following morning when the airline published the employment photos of the pilots. The bartender at a local watering hole recognized them as the two drunks she had thrown out of the bar at 2 a.m. The public outrage rang through the Teflon coated halls of Congress. The FAA ordered emergency alcohol education for pilots. One small airline responded by developing a program to identify pilots in the early stages of the disease to get them into treatment. The pilot tasked with the job by the airline owner and founder was Captain Rene Cheramie, a war veteran who carried a load of unique baggage. With the help of a physician and other experienced care-givers, Rene learns how to establish a program and to differentiate between alcoholism and mental illness. A pilot who lived alone in the swamp had alligators trained as guard dogs. Alcohol was way down on the list of his problems. For this program to succeed, pilots had to trust the system to the extent they would reach out to Rene to identify and help a brother pilot. The first case was Charlie Adricella, a pilot who in years past had been a good friend of Rene’s. As Rene began to investigate the situation, the desperate need he saw in Charlie’s daughter for a sober, loving daddy touched his heart. With the aid of Melanie Harbor, the social worker selected to help start the program, Rene walks with Charlie and his family through the intervention, treatment, and aftercare with its associated twists and turns. One of the twists is Charlie’s girlfriend drinking buddy owns more than one firearm and is not happy with his attempt at sobriety. While Rene works with these nurturing caregivers and meets people in different circumstances and situations, he finds the opportunity to develop a relationship which could possibly lead to a romance, as much romance as his baggage will permit.

From the Author A sequel should not be the re-telling of the original story, but should re-invent the parts that worked. Heart of Scars is different from Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter in two important ways, mentioned here by way of introduction. Heart of Scars covers a time period of about one year, whereas Autobiography spanned decades. Because of this the reader will detect, by necessity, a different rhythm from the first.The second book also has a more somber tone than its predecessor as it explores the spiritual realm and its influence on the main character. This is a decidedly more violent novel as is unavoidable in the development of a character whose sense of hatred is as intense as Sylvester James.Readers who enjoyed Autobiography should not anticipate a re-tread in this second book, and should be ready for a more solemn, brutal phase in the evolution of a werewolf hunter.

About the Author Brian P. Easton grew up among the hardwood bluffs of Southern Illinois, saddled between the banks of the Big Muddy and the Mississippi.  His father, a horseman and preacher, taught him at an early age that werewolves were evil characters not heroes. Instead he encouraged his son to read about historic frontiersmen like Lewis Wetzel, or legendary gunmen like Bill Hickok. Small wonder the boy watched Gunsmoke and The Night Stalker with equal enthusiasm. Factor into this equation a 3-ton Royal typewriter given to him by his mother the year he turned 10 and the story just sort of writes itself. Most of his works include various occult and sub-cultural references, drawing both from decades of independent research and his own storied adventures; the majority of which are completely explainable. Easton's literary influences include the usual suspects: Lovecraft, Howard, Poe and Burroughs, but none have been as impactful as Cormac McCarthy and his masterpiece, Blood Meridian. He is currently engaged in the biggest adventure of his life: raising the son who will one day replace him.

Buckley In case I ever wonder why I never read books in a series back-to-back I'll have to look back no further than Heart of Scars, Brian Easton's sequel to Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter. For authors, a sequel may be a chance to develop a new voice or a different perspective on his characters or plotline. For the reader who reads the books soon after each is published, re-connecting with the characters may motivate them to overlook a sequel's flaws.But for me, who read the books back to back, the differences betwee the two novels was jarring. For one, Autobiography had the real feel of an autobiography. It seemed the main character, Sylvester Logan James, was recalling his early life from a vantage point where he had attained some perspective. Such is not the case with Heart of Scars. In this novel the action again follows James, but it feels more like a filmed-as-it-happened documentary. It lacks the perspective that passing time and introspection provided for the first book. In fact the only introspection James is allowed in Heart of Scars seems to amount to little more than feeling he's a bad person who has done bad things and is destined for eternal damnation.What it lacks in introspection, the book makes up for in violence and dreams/visions/hallucinations. The violence is pervasive and described in minute detail. In fact, there are fight scenes that seem to run on for page after page while Easton decribes in detail the sound of flash being ripped, blood gushing from wounds and bones not just snapping, but being shattered. As for the visions or dreams or hallucinations James has as he deals with his apparent possession by a Windigo spirit, they might best be described as a combination of a Timothy Leary acid trip, some of the more lurid parts of Dante's Inferno and William S. Burroughs most bizzare drug-fueled writing.Sure, James gets to dispatch werewolves, just as he did in the first book. But this time around much of the book reads more like a spy novel than the intriguing horror novel the first book in the series was. Sure, many of the same characters have returned, but most of them have roles that might charitably be described as walk-on parts.I was prepared to put Heart of Scars down two-thirds of the way through the book. But I persevered and was rewarded with a story that came to a close in familiar territory. It seemed almost as though Easton used much of the second book to stretch his wings and try new things. Fortunately, from my point of view, he was able to jettison many of the distracting story lines and bring the book's focus back to James and his quest for redemption as the story wound down.It seems apparent from the end of Heart of Scars that there will be more to come in the story of Sylvester Logan James. I just hope that Easton will keep the next book more tightly focused on the werewolf hunter.

Fantastic sequel By Splinter76 So, I stumbled across "Autobiography of a Werewolf Hunter" a year or so ago and when I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. As soon as I finished the book, I discovered that there was a sequel, so I immediately bought it.What we have here is the "Empire Strikes Back" of Easton's SLJ trilogy, one might say. Much darker and much more violent. Our hero is, page by page, becoming less of a hero and more of a putrid shell of a man as hate (and something else that I won't spoil here) consumes him. As SLJ takes his journey through this horror, and nearly loses everyone else he ever cared for, the book leads us up to a shocking twist at the end that sets up the 3rd book in a magnificent way.When I got to the end of this book.... I was literally angry that I had to WAIT for the next book. I'm so excited to get my hands on the third book and find out what happens next.This is a great book, especially if you loved the first one. Just be warned, it is violent and much darker - as I said before. BUT, that's part of this journey. Don't let it deter you.

The main character either fights werewolves or himself or someone he's personally made an enemy. Can't wait for book3. Excellent series!

By nutty netty I enjoyed this book- The author really makes you stop and think "wait-what??" it is NOT a book that you can read through in a day or two- he weaves you in and out- through characters and floors of the nut house- always wondering what the next chapter is going to bring. Some of the third floor shenanigans were a little graphic for me and I had to skip over those parts- but I am quite squeamish. worth the read!!!

I never realized that so many things out their were available to them. Things we take for granite. This book is another one you can't put down, even when it comes time to eat!!! 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Hope it never happens to us! By KB I don't normally read paranormal stories but because of the deaf family involved, I decided to try it. This book really kept my attention almost non-stop as I was waiting to see what would happen next and hoping the family wouldn't get hurt and yet wondering why they didn't leave the house. The demons seemed to be getting more frustrated because the family couldn't initially hear them and they resorted to making themselves known visually and finally resorting to visual and physical violence. There were several Christian comments included in this book too, but that didn't seem to really hold off the spirits very long until they got more professional help. And yet, even that wasn't perfect. It still was a scary thought that it could happen to anyone unexpectedly and the difficulties to get rid of the demons.

There is no verbal communication, no music, and no movies. Society has been forced into silence. Karen Malena has shown us a world where any verbal utterance condemns the speaker. Can one man’s conviction reverse a lifetime of verbal silence? Karen drew me in at the beginning with believable characters—both likeable and hated. Part one ended and I wanted more. She has me anxiously awaiting the next book. I recommend this to all readers, especially those who would rather speak than text.

Her stories always revolve around relationships and family, dedication and faith, overcoming obstacles that every reader can relate to. Many of those elements are present in Sound of Silence even as Ms Malena delves into a dark, sinister dystopian future reminiscent of Fahrenheit 451 or Soylent Green, a world where adults are forbidden to speak and little children are never given the chance.

Kiya and Erden are both slaves. Erden is a bear-shifter, but also one of the longest serving gladiators in the service of Julius. Kiya has been a slave since childhood, working for Aelia, but when she overhears Julius and Aurelius plotting against Erden, she has no hesitation in warning him. Aurelius is both a young senator and an eligible bachelor and he has set his sights on Kiya. Convincing Julius to put on an evening of fights, wine and women, Kiya knows she is no longer safe and looks to Erden for solace. In him she finds a kindred spirit and a protector, and he gives her a perspective on life she has never had before. For Erden, Kiya reminds him of what it feels like to be a man, a man who has to protect his mate and not let anyone hurt her. The evening’s frivolities do not end as expected, when there is a sudden turn of events - Erden finds himself pitted against the Jade tigers and the party turns into a slaughterhouse as the slaves, repressed for so long, take vengeance and retaliate after years of mistreatment. There are some absolutely fascinating parts to this story that pulls the reader in, and I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this book. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Give it a chance though. It eventually captivated me and the resolution of the conflict was satisfying. I would read more if this is a series. I can forgive a slow start for a good story and ending.

Fantastic suspense, loads of action and a few chuckles too. Jackie has three martial arts belts and there's several fight scenes that lures the reader in with excitement. Excellent story and characters. Would love to see a second book :)

I couldn't stop reading it.Jackie is the pilot daughter of a Lieutenant Commander Navy Seal. He has certainly raised her right. She knows how to defend herself, said with a laugh. She witnesses a couple of murders ordered by the Governor.Holden Falcone is the FBI agent sent to question her and place her in Witness Protection under the watchful eye of the U.S. Marshals. She escapes and he follows.Which will catch her? Holden or the bad guys?You can probably guess, but it is well worth the read. So much fun!!

Holly had me from the first page to the last. It is not a read for women – too much testosterone. The main character of the story, a woman, holds her own against bad guys, good guys, and crazy guys. Holly uses the phrase, Houdini with a black belt to describe the heroine which was so fitting to her character.Jackie Remus, the daughter of a deceased Navy SEAL, witnesses two murders committed by the Governor and his henchmen. U.S. Marshalls and the FBI come to her aid, putting her in the Witness Protection Program while they try to locate the Governor and bring him to justice. But the Governor and his men make every attempt to prevent her from testifying, and in the process, eliminate all but one protector, an Agent named Holden. Doubting the government’s ability to keep her safe, she seeks help from members of her deceased father’s SEAL team, and is able to vanish. Pursued by both good guys and bad guys, she eludes them, taking them all on the rides of their life. Every page will keep you on the edge of your seat, and you won’t see the ending coming. The few flaws I came across did not detract from the storyline, and having read this author before, I believe it is her best writing to date.Being retired military, with past associations with Army Special Forces types, I got the military significance and mentality of the SEALs. Although an over-the-top portrayal of their capabilities, Holly doses out snippets of why we can lay our heads on the pillow at night and know that real such warriors exist and take care of the bad guys. This is a ‘must read’ for those that can’t get enough action-packed stories, and should be displayed on the table in every man-cave. The only other thing I can add to this review is, Alpha Mike Foxtrot.
