By horrorgirldonna Sadie Hawkins is a pre-teen who has attacked her school and have killed dozens of kids and faculty before taking her own life.Blackjack Carnahan is a detective investigating the brutal murder of a postal office worker and his family. The murdered man is a member of the local UFO community and has emailed a file containing frightening photos to “Soldier of Fortune Magazine,” promoting a visit from a Man In Black agent from Homeland Security. But the MIB has eyes on Carnahan, as well.Buffy Rayburn is a hypnotherapist whose expertise has been requested as a service of a special task force, despatched to investigate the Sadie Hawkins case because her speciality is in multiple personality disorders known as Satanic Ritual Abuse.As Carnahan is racing to uncover how these crimes are all connected, a group of crazy Denver motorcycle cops / assassins-for-hire are closing in, looking to make him their next target.This is installment #1 or Pretty Hate Machine and I have to say I’m already keen to get me hands on the next one. Don Templeton has given us a brutal, unusual, rapid-fire tale of carnage and conspiracy. This novel is definitely not for everyone, but those who can take it will love it. The scenarios are vivid, realistic, often sad, and ultimately so engrossing that you will not be able to put this book down. Interesting characters, believable dialogue, and overall excellent writing makes this one rate five stars, in my opinion. Great job!

By Renee Spicuzza This novel is not for the weak of heart because it has very graphic violence, but with that being said, I was thoroughly captivated through the entirety of the novel. Special Task Force has a very diverse set of characters, which can immediately be seen within the first chapter when a child becomes the focal point for an unlikely crime. That very sad, but violent scenario held my interest from the get go, making me go on and see what else would happen with other characters. I enjoyed the portrayal of the characters as being different from stereotypes within society, such as with the child being a murderer, because something so extreme is unheard of, but is so interesting that it forces you to keep reading to see what other outrageous thing would happen next. I know that after reading the novel, we as readers are able to help shape the course for the future novels, which is very exciting, so I will be pursuing the next book to continue the storyline that I have enjoyed.

The first installment of "Special Task Force: Green Majik, Pretty Hate Machine" opens with a school shooting. The act is committed by an unlikely criminal: a small child. What unfolds is an equal mix of fast-paced, heart-pounding action, a suspenseful plot told from multiple points of view, and characters who range from heroic to brutal and all points in between (think Clint Eastwood meets Timothy Leary and Hunter S. Thompson). The story unfolds so quickly that you won't have a chance to breathe deeply until the last word of the first installment has been read. Go for the ride and weigh in on what should happen next in this intense, interactive new novel.

From the Author Why is Streets of Gold $15.72? Like each word in the novel, I obsessed over the price. I was determined not to blindly follow the conventions of big publishers. Streets of Gold is a fictional thriller, but thematically explores the gap between the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor. I wanted to ensure anyone could buy Streets of Gold for under an hour's pay. To do this I traveled to locations in Los Angeles where people receive illegal wages and met a woman who makes approximately $5.25 an hour. In order for her to buy the ebook for less than an hour's worth of work, I set the price at $5.24 and made the print edition the lowest multiple (3) that was profitable, equalling $15.72.

About the Author E.P. Shelky is a Hopwood Award recipient and optioned screenwriter releasing his debut novel. He has lived (and commuted) all over the streets of Los Angeles.

City dwellers & followers of political issues will relate By Justin K "The Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles sat in the smoggy armpit of two busy freeways. A yellow haze hovered above and glimmered when the moon struck at just the right angle."I live in a major city and we’re seeing the separation of classes grow rapidly. Plus, the morning news is filled with instances of a people catching crimes on cell phones. Add to it, groups are forming in protest of how things are being handled. Obviously something has to change or we’re headed for trouble. Streets of Gold hit on these truths and explores one potential disaster through a few main characters whose clash mirrors society as a whole.As a fan of literature, I thought the description of setting could have gone a bit deeper. Living in the setting, I could imagine everything clearly as I walk through it on a daily basis, but I wonder if that will be the case for rural readers. Still, this doesn’t detract from the deep characters and provocative action.I’ll also be curious to see how the end is received. Using the epilogue E.P. Shelky entwines real life technology in an interesting way. Overall, I’m recommending this to my book friends and those interested in current political issues. There are few books that pull off the reality fiction thing, but I’d put this in that category.

Matthews It's been a while since I've actually read a book thats captivated me enough to actually want to write a review about it. I started reading it on the morning of my day off, and literally did not put it down until I was finished. Okay, well literally I had to eat and function as a human, but besides that I was drawn in all day. The story is interesting for a number of factors, and I honestly believe it can appeal to many different people. One of the main characters, Scooby, exists in a dark world I couldn't pretend to know about but am fascinated by the descriptions and detail that the author goes into. The other character comes off as such a jerk in the beginning, I know I've probably met or dated him. In summary its a great book, and you will not regret buying it.

By Amazon Customer Streets of Gold took me by surprise...with my initial expectations being that of just a thriller, it turned out to have much larger undertones about the social state of the U.S. which I didn't expect. While you can expect a fast pace thriller on the surface, if you aren't caught up by the implications of what the characters represent in our current society, you are clearly missing a majority of what the book was about. The lives of the characters take surprising turns throughout the novel but what left me most thoughtful after I finished the book was exactly is a main theme in the news today, the "1%er's" vs. the inevitable shrinking of the "middle class" and how this impacts not only the state of our economy but how this affects the society we live in.Without giving away the novel - there were moments I found myself unable to continue as I was lost in thought about how this novel so clearly relates to current events today. I also found myself taken aback and genuinely nervous/excited about how the characters lives were going to turn out after a chance meetings leaves them all in an intermingle web of travesty and intrigue.As a reader that usually focuses on one genre of novels - it was nice to branch out and read a suspenseful thriller that on it's surface can be taken as a good book. However, the author added another dimension to the novel and the genre in general by incorporating the undertone of our current society and state of affairs (focusing on the blue collar versus the very wealthy). It is a novel that you can enjoy on the beach, however will leave you walking away thinking about much more than just the characters and the story.Nice job to the author and I look forward to the next novel.

Sequel lives up to its promise By djg After reading Diffusion, the first book in this science-fantasy series, I was looking forward to reading this sequel. And, I wasn't disappointed at all. Infusion continues the excitement built up for the reader as the main characters journey back home to the United States, bringing with them the 'gift' discovered earlier in the Indonesian rainforests. Can humanity be trusted to make good use of the object the Quentin Darnell and his group carry with them? There are plenty of twists, turns, and surprises in the plot that kept me guessing. Is this the end of this tale? Author Stan C. Smith leaves just enough to make me wonder, and hope for more. After reading Diffusion, the first book in this science-fantasy series, I was looking forward to reading this sequel. And, I wasn't disappointed at all. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Riveting Read By cuzball I just finished Stan Smith's second book, Infusion! I loved it (even more than book one, Diffusion -- if that is possible)! I can't tell you the number of times that I found myself holding my breath in anticipation of next plot twist. Stan is more than an author--he is a story weaver extraordinaire! My favorite Infusion quote was "Power earned is used with caution, with an understanding of consequences. Power that is given to us, on the other hand, is misunderstood. And so we toy with it." I was actually sad to reach the end of book two. Not because I did not like the ending, but because I wanted the story to continue. At one time, Stan hinted about a book three, and the ending suggests this as is a possibility as well. If you are looking for a riveting read, then this is the book for you! P.S. This would make a sensational movie!

They will pull you into a world of possibilities and the unimaginable. I love that it is a young boy, Bobby, who is insightful enough to figure out a way to give this gift to the world. This book, and book one, held my interest from page one to the very last page! Here's hoping there is a third book where these characters can continue their adventures.
