She is going to be a human sacrifice unless he can save her. Ki Gor goes to the hidden valley with two trusted friends and a pygmy army. The other tales are about revenge and lost treasure. I enjoyed this edition of Jungle Stories and any Tarzan fan would also.

Ambitious young Mage Samara hits a dead end in her research to unlock the secrets of a recently unearthed arcane manuscript. Out of options, she commissions Darian, a warrior of the Manu tribe, to lead her to one of his people's renowned seers. The secret they discover, however, leaves them hunted at every turn as they become entangled in a plot to tear open a portal to Hell, releasing a legion of bloodthirsty demons upon the world. Thrown into a struggle neither fully understand, and complicated by a mutual attraction that neither will acknowledge, the pair must race hundreds of miles before the sun rises on the equinox to head off a cataclysm that only Samara can stop. That's assuming Darian can keep them both alive long enough to reach their goal. But between assassins, demons, fae, and the very land itself trying to kill them, the odds are not in their favor.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Good story line and hey this guy can write... By Richard L. Barrett This is a first published book by the author, Matthew Mitchell. It hardly seems possible he is so smooth, but he has been writing for many years according to the book cover. (Good job hanging in there.) The story starts well and gets the reader (me in this case and I'm not that easy) engaged. I took the book on a trip to read on the plane but found myself reading it every night. By the third night I had to force myself to put the book down so I could function the next day. At almost 400 pages it took me a five days to finish reading at night. Interesting handling at the end of the book and an epilog clearly sets up a series of book possibilities with these same characters. The editor missed a couple of words, minor but not that annoying, and for some reason the Epilog was printed twice in my copy. Clearly a first printing but I was surprised to see such a simple error get to press... Otherwise, Holon Publishing great job taking on a new author... I think if Mathew keeps this up the series could be a great find both for the publisher and the readers. Matthew definitely has some talent as a writer and it looks like a great world full of new ideas and fast fun reading could be headed our way.

I had seen the tropes done to death. This book was a very refreshing change. It opens similarly, but moves briskly into territory that isn't just about spell-slinging wizards, sword-swinging heroes, and arrow-launching archers. It's reasonable with tragedy and the challenges the characters face that other novels might simply gloss over which are INTERESTING. I've rarely read an accurate assessment of the challenges of riding a horse for days or weeks. Where other authors treat horses as modern modes of transportation, the reality of the times is more apparent here.Soon enough in the book, the chase is on. It pays attention to its own pace and twists the path enough to keep ahead of at least an average reader.I was eager to see how the story turned out for the protagonists, and that was something I'd personally been missing for awhile. I had stopped caring about fantasy protagonists. Finally, here I found humans.

Walls Mitchell does an excellent job of taking traditional fantasy ideas and giving a new, detailed, and consistent spin on them. Though technically written in first person, he changes perspectives between characters so that it does not feel like it at all; I found myself reading it in 3rd person anyway! This helped get inside the character's heads and experience their different perspectives from their different cultures. I can't wait to find out more about the world!

Another exciting volume in the popular high-seas nautical adventure series featuring the dashing and debonair naval commander Thomas Kydd   Word has come from the British ambassador Arbuthnot that the neutral Turks are being wooed by the French and if the ancient city of Constantinople falls into their hands, Napoleon’s route to India will be completely unfettered and his plans for world domination a reality. Concerned for his safety, Arbuthnot is demanding a large fleet presence to take him off and bring the Turks to their senses. Braving treacherous currents, unreliable winds, and giant bombards, Thomas Kydd returns to sea and rescues the ambassador, but as Kydd waits for the rest of the expected fleet, the French are able to strengthen the Turkish defenses. Meanwhile Kydd’s friend and confidential secretary, Nicholas Renzi, has assumed a new and dangerous role that he can never make public. He engineers a coup in the Topkapi Palace that turns the tables on the French but at the cost of both infidel nations being ejected from the Ottoman Empire. When Kydd learns of Renzi’s incarceration in a Turkish prison, he knows if will take superb seamanship and sheer bravado to free his friend.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Also a Renzi Land Adventure By re5jim This is the fifteenth volume in the Kydd series. Any of these can stand alone, but of course they're so much better if read in order.Pasha sees our heroes through a few transitions. First we finally find out if Renzi will ever marry Kydd's sister. She has been waiting for him to make up his mind and so have we. Both Thomas Kydd and Mr. Renzi gain new titles which force them to part company as Renzi takes on new roles both at home and abroad. In fact, Pasha may seem to be more about Renzi than Captain Kydd. Never fear. Stockwin doesn't let him have the whole book. There is plenty of excitement aboard ship. We get the usual battles and fires and the conversation between sailors we've come to know as well as a few new characters.Historical fiction blends real events with fictional characters. There is a very interesting note from the author that tells of his trip to Turkey, the people, the buildings, and the history that inspired him to write such an intriguing cloak and dagger adventure.I was delighted to win a copy from Goodreads Giveaways.

Like all of the others it has moments of dashing adventure and intrigue. I have to say I did not see how Thomas and Nicholas were going to get out of the situations they became involved. But as usual they make it through, now you may say that I have told the end of the story, but yes and no. You know that Thomas and Nicholas are going to come out on top. The thing is how they manage to come out on top and that is what is worth reading. If you are a fan of the Age of Sails genre then do read this one. If you are a fan of the Thomas Kydd stories then read this one. One thing I would like to say about these books while they are fiction you can not help to be intrigued by the element of history woven into the stories. In fact these stories have caused me to read several non-fiction books on this amazing period of history.

The accurate use of complex Turkish/Ottoman Empire words, names, phrases presenteda challenge to this reader - but expanded the authenticity one has come to expect from a Stockwin novel.
