About the Author Chicago-area native Lorraine Evanoff graduated from DePaul University with a degree in French. She lived in Paris, France, for seven years, first working as an English teacher and translator of films for subtitles. Then she worked in film production and distribution before moving to Los Angeles to continue to work in film production. She moved to Silicon Valley and worked in finance during the Dot-Com era. She finally returned to work in film finance and currently lives in Los Angeles. This is her first novel, which is loosely based on actual events and inspired by her years living in France.

By Paula in Chicago Ms. Evanoff delivers a story that is both intriguing and artfully told in her first novel, Foliage. As a former Parisian, I loved the setting of the book. However, it's the skillfully developed plot with a mix of intrigue, financial thriller and romance that draws the reader in until they are completely immersed in the world of Louise Moscow. The title character and her exploits brought me back to an unforgettable and exciting time in Europe during the fall of the Iron Curtain. Through the voice and the actions of Louise, the author deftly revisits the intricacies of the many moving parts of politics in the early 1990s. It’s both nostalgic and relevant in our present day. A thoroughly enjoyable story, and one that has me anxiously awaiting the continuing adventures of the heroine in the next Louse Moscow novel. Fabulous novel, which I highly recommend!

Why is my husband being so mysterious lately? What is my wife up to now? That’s kid’s stuff compared to what Lorraine Evanoff delivers in Foliage. She puts us in the big league with her very believable Louise Moscow, a fast-rising star in international banking who becomes an unwitting spy in a true and already forgotten banking scandal. What I love about Louise Moscow is that she seems so real, from savoring a stack of pancakes in her mom’s cozy kitchen to creeping through the murky catacombs of Paris. If you love history, you will love Evanoff’s interesting side stories. If you love travel, you will love Moscow’s exotic jaunts. If you love spy thrillers, you will really love Foliage! I can’t wait for Louise Moscow’s next thrill-packed adventure. Stay tuned.

I received an ARC of Lorraine Evanoff’s new book, Foliage: An International Spy Thriller in exchange for an honest review. It starts off fast and keeps you hooked. The series heroine Louise Moscow is sexy, brazen and fearless in business and in love. The twists and turns keep you guessing and wanting to read on. Plus the historic events blew my mind and the depictions of the exotic locations made me feel like I was there the way Dan Brown does. I can’t wait to read book 2!! Hurry, Ms. Evanoff!

Author’s Note I wrote The Sex Gates in 1993 at a frenzied pace, completing the first draft in one month flat. In looking over my original novel and the one ten years later which includes Jeanine Berry as a collaborator, I am unable to judge which version I like best. That is for readers to decide. I can only say that going back over the old manuscript helped me recapture most of the original emotion and intensity with which I first got this notion into novel form. When I revisited The Original Sex Gates, I was reminded of the two versions of Arthur C. Clark’s grand stories, Against The Fall Of Night and The City And The Stars. I have been reading both versions over and over for many years and continue to enjoy both of them to this day. I sincerely hope you can do the same with the two different versions of The Sex Gates.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Racy and Risque By C. Hill I have both the Original Sex Gates and the trilogy, I enjoy both versions equally. I'm fascinated by the idea of being able to go through a gate and coming out younger, healthier body which is also of the opposite sex. The story line, once you decide to suspend a certain amount of plausability, is very amusing and thought provocing. I have read both versions a couple of times each and still find them good. I like imagining what I would do under the same circumstances. Read and enjoy!

Brown This is a tighter book with a more direct resolution to the question of the origin of the "Sex Gates" than the three volume series written with a collaborator. Bain thinks this is better and I agree with him.The three volume set just dragged things out and the numerous "sexcapades" got boring as the novelty of gender reversal wears off. This original story got the point across without killing it with repetition. I actually never finished the 3rd book in the series because I got bored with the stretched out exploration of the missing aliens, sex gates used to travel to other planets and so forth.Looking forward to reading the 2nd volume in the "Original Sex Gates" story.

The ways in which the characters in it deal with the changes that happen is what makes it a great story.One cannot read this without at least asking the question, "What would I do if this happened to me?" Merely asking the question is likely to change some perspectives.For those who read the trilogy, this is a better ending and a tighter story, although the trilogy has its merits, too.I first became interested in Darrell Bain's writing by stumbling across "Human by Choice", which similarly brings out the result of a shocking event in the things the believable characters do. That one is a great read, too.

I highly recommend it for beginners and experienced pro's as well. There's something for everyone here. I especially enjoyed the section on "nn Hour Film Races" and I think that the author really tells it like it is and points out some considerations that people new to the process may not think about.All in all, this book is way more valuable than the asking price. Get it, read it and learn!

In so doing, he comes up against an armed, active, neo-Confederate hate group operating out of a local gun club and bent on domestic terrorism.

The suspects are many. Among them are an unstable realtor with whom Gwynn was having an affair; her alcoholic, hot-headed husband; their son, a Civil War enthusiast who’s been upset by the unsavory lifestyles of his parents; her brother, a rising politician, and a retired Navy contractor, as well as other members of the aforementioned militia.

Bloody Lane is set in and around Frederick, Maryland, a small city with an intriguing past. The infamous Civil War battle of Antietam, fought nearby, yielded the single bloodiest day in American history. The conclusion is both violent and unsettling.

One of the Year's Best New Crime Novels By Robert Passikoff As a reader addicted to crime fiction, it's a joy to find a new book clearly authored by writers who understand their craft and the genre. The story is an interesting blend of today and yesterday and there's a nice counterpoint to the plot, especially for history buffs. Felix Allaben, the book's special investigator, is special indeed. Characters are finely drawn, and if you haven't visited any Civil War battlefields, you'll feel like you were right there! This book is smart and enjoyable with a nice pace to the plot, so an intriguing read on several levels. My first thought upon finishing it was, "is there another?"

Oppenheim I am not a crime reader but this book helped me revisit the lovely town of Frederick, MD where a lot of the exciting action of this book takes place. It is an easy read that turns into quite a suspenseful page turner that keeps the reader guessing. I see a franchise here with a well drawn protagonist with a compelling back story. Civil War bluffs and mystery readers alike can enjoy this excellent book. Can't wait for any sequels....Felix Allaben rocks!

I visited the region recently, and that visit enriched my appreciation of the book. The book had me guessing from beginning to end. I'm usually good at predicting plot twists and hidden villains, but this book was a surprise throughout. Total fun read. I absolutely recommend it to mystery buffs or anyone knowledgeable about the Civil War battles in and around Antietam.

About the Author Epredator / Ian Hughes is a metaverse evangelist. He has worked in unusual and emerging technologies in both a corporate setting and out in startup land. He specialises in using game technology, such as virtual worlds to help people communicate and understand concepts. Being a techie, and working across many mediums he has used social media since before it was as social as it is now. Blogging and sharing ideas is a core part of who he is. Science Fiction is a natural genre and his first book was spawned from using and developing software for virtual environments. He was resident super geek on a UK TV show called The Cool Stuff Collective for 39 episodes from 2011-2011. He was able to share his enthusiasm for new technology with the next generation, as well as working alongside a monkey, a cave girl and a host of other characters. In the third series he got to relive his own saturday morning childhood TV memories by flinging custard pies at people too. His epredator handle is common across most games and platforms. It is part of his online persona, but heavily integrated with his real life one. Things may be digital but they are still real. He used to use just Predator because he was good at instinctively hunting down bugs. However, then the 20th Century Fox movie and characters appeared and it became a much more common name and handle. The Yautja offering an honourable and strong character to identify with too. In the late 90's everything was getting e put on the front of it, ebusiness, ecommerce. So in part a joke he added the e. It stuck. Epredator became a well known handle through the rise of virtual worlds such as Second Life in 2006-2009. By sharing his ideas with colleagues he became known as a metaverse evangelist. Travelling the world explaining why you don't need to travel the world when you can meet in a virtual world full of expression and fun. He is not all digital though, he is a Head Instructor in the self defence martial art Choi Kwang Do. His wife and two children (the latter are both now black belts too) all practice the art.

Deftly written in the "near-future" sci-fi style that extrapolates current global culture, and interprets the possibles we are living toward. This is a great read, one that will having you hoping there is another story ahead for "epredator."

Ian Hughes just redefined the techno thriller By Simón Gómez Being a systems engineer myself, I'm quite picky when it comes to reading novels that claim to be based on technology, informatics, internet, etc. and I tend to critique them pretty hard. Let me tell you, Reconfigure didn't disappoint me one byte!Ian Hughes is a man who has been into virtual reality and cyber worlds for quite a long time, having a quite well known name in the Second Life community as Epredator. His experience and research in the tech field are perfectly reflected in the writing of Reconfigure. Everything that happens in the story, except for the obvious sci-fi elements, is posible either right now with today's technology, or will be in a very near future, and being a techie, that fact delights me.We follow the adventures of Roisin, a programmer who by some fortunate (or not) coincidences, accidentally finds herself able to use her tech knowledge to modify the real world as if it was a computer program like the ones she has been working with all her life. What she did not know and would find out soon is that there are hidden powers in this world who are more than interested in what she just discovered. She will find herself involved in a war she has to fight by herself.Fast paced and with a cinematic flow, Reconfigure had my attention 100% of the time, I just wanted to finish the current page so I could find out what happened in the next, and before I knew I had finished the book. Good thing there is already a second part out!If you like cyberpunk, or sci-fi in general, I would blindly recommend this book. If you don't, I still think you should give it a chance because it's just that good.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good techno-thriller that techies will love By Andy Piper A clever story mechanic firmly grounded in gaming, virtual worlds, tech and coding. For me it took a while to take hold as it needed to lay the groundwork, but once Roisin (the protagonist) stepped into the real world about midway through it became a real page-turner of a techno thriller. A couple of good twists I didn't see coming held my attention! Epredator does a good job making the complex sound more realistic and simple.Disclaimer: I'm a friend of the author and provided some advice during development, but I firmly believe that many sci-fi and tech fans will enjoy this novel.

Set in a plantation in the Solomon Islands, it is blatantly racist towards the natives and started off with describing a disgusting disease which had infected many of them. Even the British plantation owner, who was the only white man there, had symptoms of the disease but he still needed to maintain discipline over his black workers who were recruited for five-year stints and paid very low wages. I cringed at the description of the disease and I cringed at the description of the discipline, but frankly, I couldn't stop reading.Written in 1911, this is a novel about a time and a place. It is also a story of a romance. And a story about a young beautiful liberated American woman named Joan who was raised free and wild in Hawaii, taught to captain a ship, handle a rough crew, and resist marital entanglements. When her ship runs adrift on the plantation owner's property, he naturally falls head over heels in love with her.What follows is nothing short of high adventure and I can well understand the title of this short 190 page novel. There are worker uprisings, long treks through the jungle, murder, revenge, a duel between two white men and a wild assortment of shady characters. The story moves fast and gives quite a sordid picture of life in the Solomon Islands at time. It is a hard life for everybody and yet, as Jack London describes it, is also a life of high adventure as well as a great example of the work of this author.

If you're a Jack London fan you will not be dissapointed By Phil Jack London’s detailed knowledge of the subjects he writes about astounds me, this level of detail can not be dreamed up, it must come from his real experience and to have been out amongst the world that he writes about is what I find most amazing as are the characters he discusses – never a dull moment. If Jack London were alive today I’d absolutely want to spend some time with

An average length book full of interesting facets and offshoots of activity that flow out into what I think is a masterpiece of story telling. The title, "Adventure," is most cleverly chosen and fits perfectly the "drift" of the narrative. I enjoyed it very much.
