Rivers don't let rocks hold them back. River Nightingale has decided to blow past the rocky men in her life. She's played by the rules for too long - especially when it came to her career as a cop. She was the top closer of cases for years, but promotions in her small town cop shop went to her less productive male counterparts. River's friends, three other women cops, are also ready to change careers. Together they leave behind their small towns, become their own bosses, and purchase a Seattle private detective agency. Homicide Detective Gage Hamlin takes pride in his job; he closes cases and fosters justice. All that changed the day River Nightingale sauntered into his office. River has him questioning his pride, his cases, and his aversion to private detectives, especially beautiful private detectives. River's client thinks Gage got it wrong, and River is forced to prove Gage missed a murder. Will River and Gage find a way to play nice, or will River be forced to leave Gage behind?

This one lets you know why these girls branch out on their own and they could not of made a better decision. Thanks in part to her uncle her and her friends are able to buy and take over a detective agency. River gets recommended by her uncle to a brother and sister who need her help with a cold case involving their parents. The elements are solid and prick the interest with intrigue right away, and on the back of that is contact with the one who initially handled the case. Gage will not be your average small town cop who thinks women can not be good at what they do but he is defensive none the less. Actually you get a pretty good feeling that Gage is one fine cop. As the time goes on in this they will even find a way to work together. Even though this is a basic who done it, it is stamped with her style and branded with romance that gives a warm touch to a murder mystery that needs solved. Along with this is another element that will need solving almost like a missing person's one that is key to the brother and sister. The characters are a delight and with everything that goes down with this one you will be caught up as you should be in a well written suspense. So at the end of this one I would say that River is very happy indeed with her decision.

By Courting Fiction River Nightingale just watched another promotion pass her up. She’s closed more cases than anybody in her town, only to watch a man with half the experience who works the least amount of anyone take the job. Enough is enough and when the possibility of joining her new friends as a private investigator in Seattle becomes a reality she calls her uncle, pulls a few strings, and makes the move to The City of Flowers. With their new business up and running a new client comes in asking for help with finding who murdered his parents and tracking down a long lost half sister that had been secretly adopted. Unfortunately for River, tracking down the murderer means working with bossy and prideful Homicide Detective, Gage Hamlin and reopening his case. He hates nosy private investigators and she hates smug arrogant policeman that look down their noses at woman cops. They need to put their differences aside and work together to solve the cases, because it seems like someone else is on their heels ready to do whatever it takes, even kill a cop, in order to hide the truth. This is an amazing story, the suspense dripped from each page and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This is the first time I’ve read a book from Joanne Jaytanie, and I loved it!

Elizabeth, Lady Trivett, lived a turbulent life through the reigns of three different kings, while the Wars of the Roses played out on battlefields and through court intrigue. The story begins as the characters vacation to England. Their tour to Stonehenge however, becomes a puzzling ordeal as they slip accidentally through a time portal. As they wander into their new surroundings, Kitty’s knowledge of the time period helps them to realize WHEN in time they are. With the portal closed behind them, they venture to London to find their ancestor, hoping to find a way home. Their trip to London allows them to become acclimated to the time and place so that they are able to convince Lady Trivett of who they are and ask for her help. While in London Joe and Larry get inadvertently swept away and into the Battle of Agincourt. Unfortunately, Kathy and Kitty have the misfortune to arouse the suspicions of a priest who is fanatical about rooting out heresy. Helping the priest is a young maid who thinks she would make a much better, and younger, wife for Joe than Kitty. The priest’s accusations, meanwhile, lead Kathy and Kitty into imprisonment in the Tower of London, about to be burned at the stake. Elizabeth does realize a way she can help her unexpected relatives back to their time period. The problem is that Joe and Larry are still fighting in France, while Kitty and Kathy are locked in the tower. Will the men return in time to rescue their wives from the tower and implement Lady Trivett’s plan? The Canterbury Connection is a story of four ordinary, older people in an extraordinary circumstance. The great value of this idea is that one can have grandchildren and still have a loving physical relationship with one’s spouse of many years. People can still seek and experience great adventures. There are external strains on each marriage, which is true to life, yet love manages to negate those forces and make the relationships stronger

So for me this book was interesting historically. Couples are compelling with their struggles to figure out where they were and in what time. Seeing couples with loving relationships when they have grandchildren give hopes for us all. This book is irresistible adventures back in time
