Elizabeth, Lady Trivett, lived a turbulent life through the reigns of three different kings, while the Wars of the Roses played out on battlefields and through court intrigue. The story begins as the characters vacation to England. Their tour to Stonehenge however, becomes a puzzling ordeal as they slip accidentally through a time portal. As they wander into their new surroundings, Kitty’s knowledge of the time period helps them to realize WHEN in time they are. With the portal closed behind them, they venture to London to find their ancestor, hoping to find a way home. Their trip to London allows them to become acclimated to the time and place so that they are able to convince Lady Trivett of who they are and ask for her help. While in London Joe and Larry get inadvertently swept away and into the Battle of Agincourt. Unfortunately, Kathy and Kitty have the misfortune to arouse the suspicions of a priest who is fanatical about rooting out heresy. Helping the priest is a young maid who thinks she would make a much better, and younger, wife for Joe than Kitty. The priest’s accusations, meanwhile, lead Kathy and Kitty into imprisonment in the Tower of London, about to be burned at the stake. Elizabeth does realize a way she can help her unexpected relatives back to their time period. The problem is that Joe and Larry are still fighting in France, while Kitty and Kathy are locked in the tower. Will the men return in time to rescue their wives from the tower and implement Lady Trivett’s plan? The Canterbury Connection is a story of four ordinary, older people in an extraordinary circumstance. The great value of this idea is that one can have grandchildren and still have a loving physical relationship with one’s spouse of many years. People can still seek and experience great adventures. There are external strains on each marriage, which is true to life, yet love manages to negate those forces and make the relationships stronger

So for me this book was interesting historically. Couples are compelling with their struggles to figure out where they were and in what time. Seeing couples with loving relationships when they have grandchildren give hopes for us all. This book is irresistible adventures back in time
