Gripping and inspired, a thrilling read right through By James Archibald I was sucked in right from the beginning, Mr Laine has done an amazing job of pulling you into a fantastical world that is unique, and yet not so far removed from our own.The characters are interesting and the hero is flawed in his humanity, giving him a real sense of personality, allowing the reader to connect with him in a really visceral way.I started reading this on my daily train trip, and as it was pulling into the station I found myself willing it not to be so,for the trip to continue just so I didn't have to put it down. Now, where is the next one Mr Laine, we're waiting with great anticipation.

McClain The writing in this tale paints a vivid picture of its characters as well as vividly describing the worlds in which these characters exist. I believe Laine and Domingo Ladron could jump right in with R.A. Salvatore and company in the Forgotten Realms series and weave some wicked good stories!

The development of the Carey Winslow character from a teenager in a small town into a business woman in a big city is quite well crafted. Carey’s issues seem real and how she handles them may be inspiring to a whole bunch of young adult readers wanting to read something other than science fiction. The thing with the sidekick / boyfriend Ronnie was hard to believe at first but her reasons for not wanting their relationship to become physical rang true to me when I thought about it. She was as complex as he was straight forward. Wouldn’t every woman like to meet a real gentleman at least once in her life? This book is a real page turner after you get started. It shows a lot of promise from a first time author who seems to be writing from firsthand experience.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Good Read and Hope There's More To Come By Robert K. This book dealt with a too common experience facing girls and young women, and in doing so presents a great example of overcoming the trauma and carrying on. To some, Carey may seem to have been relatively unaffected by her trauma and so her character may ring somewhat untrue, while to many others she will be a shining example of courage and determination. I enjoyed the mix of characters, both male and female, and also the details of the financial world. Altogether, a good read and I look forward to the author's second book.

Review "Whoa! In a fast paced thrill ride of a read by author Brett Vonsik, Primeval Origins: Light of Honor, Book Two is nothing if not an exciting and must-read adventure story." Readers' Favorite"I just finished reading Primeval Origins: Light of Honor, Book 2 by author Brett Vonsik, and all I can say is 'Wow!'" Readers' Favorite"Primeval Origins: Light of Honor by Brett Vonsik is an epic fantasy that will take you to the edge of time and keep you on the edge of your seat." Readers' Favorite "Any reader who enjoys fantasy, action, adventure, a thrill while reading or just a plain good book should absolutely read Primeval Origins: Light of Honor, Book Two." Readers' Favorite"I very, very much enjoyed Primeval Origins: Light of Honor, Book 2. Author Brett Vonsik has done an absolutely amazing job in creating characters that readers will connect with and relate to, not always an easy feat in a work of fantasy." Readers' Favorite"As a reader, I always look for novels that keep me guessing what will happen next and this novel did that for me." Readers' Favorite "Primeval Origins: Light of Honor" by Brett VonsikPosted on January 8, 2016 by readerviewsBrettVonsikCelestial Fury Publishing (2015)ISBN 9780578172552Reviewed by Paige Lovitt for Reader Views (12/15)As I finished the last page of this novel, my first thought was, "Oh wow!" While I would like to be able to express something more articulate and impressive, this was what came to me. Even though "Primeval Origins: Light of Honor" by Brett Vonsik is the second book in a series, it stood well on its own. Because it is so exceptionally written, I would like to go back and read the first book and perhaps get a few blanks filled in. I also look forward to the next novel in this series. This epic fantasy begins in the future, introducing scientists from that time and two characters from the far distant past. The two ancient characters are warriors that have special gifts. When the vessel they are being carried on is attacked, the crew and the scientists aboard find themselves depending on these two men to help save them. Being that the attack was unexpected, there is a great deal of damage. Questions will arise in the readers mind about who these two warriors really are. Those questions are answered as the writer takes us way back in time, and we can seethe journey these young men were sent on when they were captured, along with some friends and family members of one of the men. As they endure horrible living conditions and abuse at the hands of their captors, they also begin to discover their gifts. Going into the future, the gifts are greatly put to use to help save themselves and others who seek them.I totally enjoyed reading "Primeval Origins: Light of Honor" by Brett Vonsik. I was moved by the characters and the author's vivid details of the conditions in which they were living. The personal evolvement of the characters was impressive, and it was both horribly suspenseful and entertaining to watch them put these talents to use. I feel that this series is destined to be recognized as a classic.

From the Author Primeval Origins: Paths of Anguish and Light of Honor are the  first two books in an epic saga that is much more than a single trilogy. Behind this first two books is a beyond epic storyline with a background spanning 65 million years and multiple civilizations that is filled with the challenges of moral choice and the battle against tyranny imposed by both godly and mortal adversaries. Rich in research and weaving into one grand story, humanity's ancient myths and legends, the Bible's Old and New Testament accounts, the teachings of the Qur'an, ancient alien theory, angelic lore, contemporary landscapes, conventional and forbidden archaeologies, and the latest scientific findings in paleontology, Primeval Origins sculpts a vivid world, both past and future, exploring the depth of what it is to be human and answering the questions asked across the earth...Who are we? Where do we come from? Why do we exist? The ancient story is an intricate foundation to the future story simultaneously being told in the prologues and epilogues of each book. Buckle up and enjoy the ride. We're just getting started.Brett Vonsik

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Fast-Paced Second Installment to an Exciting Story By Maria C. Cuadro Primeval Origins: Light of Honor doesn't quite pick readers like me up where Brett Vonsik's first volume left off. Instead I am hooked in the middle of a chase, with all the different characters I know from the first book present but rearranged, and with gaps in my knowledge of time and place from where I last knew the story had been going. Despite this being very disconcerting, I find the protagonists in the middle of a dangerous event, one that may spell the end for the main characters I am just touching base with again. Needless to say the adrenaline is pumping this early in the tale, so I start flipping pages as quickly as I can to find out what will happen to the characters I know while trying to remember what state they were in since I saw them last. I make it to the end breathless, excited for what could happen to the characters in the third volume. And because I am still trying to get my bearings after what I read, I start reading the story again!Intrepid graduate student/archaeologist/paleontologist Nikki Rikks finds herself and her lead professor Dr. Shawn Anders swiftly sailing on a boat that technically doesn't exist; at least no government in the world admits to Wind Runner's existence. They are being chased by even deadlier U.N. craft whose existence is not public record either, all because of momentous finds during one of their digs. There is the weaponry considered technologically advanced even for modern times embedded in the bones of a newly discovered dinosaur species, and the two creatures in stasis found some distance from the ancient bones. One looks human enough: Rogaan, a half-Tellen teenager whose coming of age Nikki was able to view and witness while she herself was exposed to a stasis field in the chamber they found in the dig. The other is a humanoid from a race Nikki learned are called Evendiir, named Aren. Time lines mix for Nikki as she witnesses Rogaan's and Aren's meeting in the past while she relies on their improbable powers and weaponry in the present to protect the uncanny Wind Runner from its deadly hunters. At this point in the review, a potential reader of Brett Vonsik's second book might think it prudent to pick up the first volume, Primeval Origins: Paths of Anguish. Although this second novel seems like it is only a transitional story between the first volume and the the upcoming third one in the series, I say the author's writing style of piling one action- or tension-filled event after another renders the need for reading volume 1 first unnecessary. All readers, regardless of them having read the first volume or not, will feel like they are have been deposited onto a whirling tornado or the crest of a tsunami, and the best thing to do is ride it out to the very end. I find it to be a very exhilarating ride! There is a lot of physical action, fights, and explosions, and even the internal conflicts of each character lend to the story's fast pace. In the scenes Nikki witnesses in the past, Rogaan has left his uncertain stage of "Can I? Should I? Would I?" and begins to be more reactive, pushed to desperation by the deprivations and injustices his friends and family suffer. Nikki's first viewing of Aren in the scenes of the past shows him to be so paranoid that the shifts and jumps in his own mind are pretty action-packed already. In the present, both are practically super heroes: disoriented and confused super heroes, but awesome to behold even at half-power. This second volume is a page-turner, whether you know much about Rogaan and Nikki or not.The Who and the What is very shifty and fast-paced in Primeval Origins: Light of Honor. The Why however permeates throughout the action-filled tale - acknowledge the plight of the oppressed and downtrodden, then answer the call to defend them against the tyrannies that bury their voice. Whether readers decide to read the first book to get a background on the characters or like myself read Primeval Origins: Light of Honor again to take note of anything I missed during the first whirlwind ride, they will find a very satisfying tale and will anticipate the coming of the third installment of this action-packed series. Recommended.

By Amazon Customer Loved this book even more than the first - it was faster-paced, wrapped up a lot of story threads that were in the first novel that were nagging at me while leaving plenty of mystery for the next book, and was definitely a bit darker than the first in the series. Reminiscent of my favorite fantasy novels from the 90s and 2000s, reading Primeval Origins: Light of Honor brought me back to the joy of reading the first books in a series and being enthralled by a new world and perspective on storytelling when I thought I had read all there was to read in the fantasy world. Props to the new author - keep the Primeval Origins books coming as fast as possible!

Heylmun As the second book in the series, Light of Honor continues the gripping narrative begun in the first book with the same intense, descriptive style. The connections between the near future prologue and epilogue and the prehistoric main text of the first book become much more tangible, tying the two stories together into an exciting adventure I wasn't anticipating, despite enjoying the first book immensely. I can't wait to read the next one.

By Sherri I would like to thank Georgina Ramsey and THE Book Club for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. I found the story of Rose Blood to be a good read. The characters are well developed, the story line is easy to follow, even with the flipping back and forth between time periods. I feel like the slips back in time allow you to better identify with the main characters and their current struggles. I would recommend this to any fans of the supernatural and vampires or immortals in particular as it is well worth the read.

Ex-surfer Jake Fonko's latest mission - locate a former CIA asset gone missing in Cambodia - has his Army Ranger instincts on full alert. He might be handsome, fit and a decorated warrior, but he's certainly no international spy. But Jake, ever the good soldier, agrees to the CIA's directive, trudging over the border to Phnom Penh. Even with few leads, everything goes well - until the bloodthirsty Khmer Rouge roars into town. That's not cool at all, because they clap Jake in Tuol Sleng torture chamber while they gear up their killing fields.

Relying on his training, keen observations and ironic sense of humor might not be enough to save him. And one surprise after another pops up on his way to the wild truth.

Maybe that asset was never really missing at all.

For fans of fun, fast-moving adventures, the Jake Fonko series seamlessly blends well-researched 20th century history with equal parts white-knuckle thrills, satirical humor and explosive action. If you like Ian Fleming (Bond), John D. MacDonald (Travis McGee), George MacDonald Fraser (Flashman) or Clive Cussler (Dirk Pitt), you'll enjoy the Jake Fonko series.

Believable protagonist in a well written story By Charles DiSogra I was surprised at how authentic Fonko came across from beginning to end in this very exciting story. The author has picked a unique time in history and a setting that few have experienced. Although much has been portrayed about Saigon during those war years, so little has been said about Cambodia and specifically Phnom Penh. Having lived in that part of the world, I can say there is a great deal of authenticity in the descriptions and in the people in the story. And, what a story! The author writes with a style that reminds me of Hemingway, a certain beauty and a punch, efficient yet mesmerizing, memorable images. Fonko’s story captures a place and a point in history that is both riveting and disturbing. The stupidity, the corruption, ingenuity and horror are all there as they are in any war setting. Along with the absurd contradictions, survival stories and sheer luck that makes heroes and evildoers. This is one of those rare books I could not put down. Hollywood should love to get this on the big screen and tell this tale and bring this time in history back to life, as tragic as it was but so much a part of the world in the mid-1970s. Not your usual spy story and a worthwhile read. Looking forward to more from this writer.

Hesse Pflingger (Tinderboxed Press)If you've ever wondered what it was like to be the last American in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in 1975 with the Khmer Rouge already ruling the streets and no way out, Professor B. Hesse Pflingger's "Jake Fonko M.I.A." will give you a very good idea. His hero, Jake Fonko, ex-surfer, college dropout, decorated US Army jungle fighter currently on loan to the CIA, is in Phnom Penh posing as an expert on rice, about which he knows zip, on an assignment about which he knows even less. His money is running out, his CIA boss is permanently out to lunch. Everywhere he inquires about a rogue chopper pilot nicknamed Dragonfly, he gets nothing but blank looks and evasive answers. If the situation were a bit brighter, it would look black.Inevitably, Jake is captured. He finds himself being interrogated/tortured on behalf of the Khmer Rouge leadership, who are quicker to chop off heads than Lewis Carroll's Queen of Hearts. But just when the situation looks hopeless, Jake discovers that his interrogator wants to get out of the hands of the Khmer Rouge as much as he does. Together, they set off on a wild adventure.Aside from his meticulous research on the Vietnam war, Pflingger confronts Jake with a whacky cast of friends and adversaries who keep him hopping.

The main character is sent on a very vague assignment, and finds himself in a house of mirrors situation where no one is really who they say they are. The steamy, sleazy atmosphere of corruption and collapsing governments, and the rise of the Khymer Rouge, is the setting for ingenious escapes from some very bad characters. A good yarn set in a place many Americans remember all too well.
