Some of the peripheral characters, such as Billy Ray, were a bit too cliche and could have been more layered or complex. However, I loved the characters of Jed, Ona, and Abe in this story of an alien seeking collaboration with an unsuspecting, disgruntled ex-Marine. The story kept moving, kept me on the edge of my seat in anticipation, and came to a somewhat unexpected ending. The whole of this story is full of heart, which I find to be a rare treasure in sci-fi. This author is renewing my interest in science fiction, something that hasn't happened since I read "The Star" (1955) by Arthur C. Clarke.

What a way to meet your galactic neighbors! Naturally, the military, politicians, media, and everybody else wants in on something this big, and it's up to our independent minded marine to protect his new "girlfriend" from all comers. The action ranges across the country and never slows down. The surprise ending puts it all into perspective. Mr. Buckner's fast paced style keeps the pages turning and we willingly suspend our disbelief. It's just too good not to be true!
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This book is By Joseph E. Cates worth 5 stars. Mr. Buckner has style that keeps you guessing. His prose is succinct and clear resembling Hemingway. I enjoy his surprise endings. An overall excellent read.
