Golden, by Kathryn Robson

Review - If you like the Maze Runner and Hunger Games, but wished they had a few Vampires, Demons and a tad more heartache, this is the book for you! Louise on Goodreads.-I couldn't put it down! Robson came up with some clever and enchanting ideas in Golden. Some I wasn't expecting at all. The main character was relatable and well developed. Fast paced and engaging. Great Book. Nicale May - Author.Full Reviews for GOLDEN by Kathryn RobsonI was very impressed with how simply and effortlessly Kathryn Robson can tell this addicting, multi-layered story with well-developed world building and great characters and still manage to make vamps/demons fresh! A less talented author would probably over-write or over-dramatize to the point of being totally unbelievable. But even with the fantastical storyline we are all in, hooked on every scene, as the world building always follows its rules which is so important in books like this. At first it took me some time to acclimate and get the feel of the characters and their backstory... was confused on a few things, but stuck with it and it all became clear. A very well written and intoxicating read all through to the end. Can't wait to read more in this series and see what is in store for our "Golden" one next!! (5 stars) Nicola Flood-Barnes & Noble; I like how even though this novels is about vampires, which is a topic that seems to have been covered from almost every conceivable angle, the story never becomes predictable or feels cliché, and there are some nice plot twists I didn't see coming, especially at the end. The characters were so well developed and fleshed out I feel like I knew them personally, and for such a 'paranormal' themed book, it felt strangely believable... like more 'real' than most fantasy/paranormals, if this makes sense. The pacing was good, bu there were some editing errors (nothing major, just punctuation here and there--but I notice these things). An emotionally seductive and satisfying escape that I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a great paranormal novel with a unique take on the vampire/demon myth. Kathryn Robson did a terrific job making this story feel like something we haven't read a million times, which is pretty impressive. Ready for more in this series! Recommend. (4 stars) Sam Ryan--Goodreads; "Golden" by Kathryn Robson was one of the most unexpectedly awesome books I've read in a looong time. To be totally honest, at first I wasn't sure I'd like it because I had a hard time figuring out what it was about from the description, and I've been a bit burned out on paranormal lately (*they are all starting to feel the same). But I was really impressed with the high quality writing in the opening sample, and thought I'd take a chance. Well, I'm so glad I did! Much to my surprise it was so unique and original, it really was unlike anything I'd read, and in a good way!! I loved the fresh approach on vampire lore, and there were so many amazing characters (Amy, Daniel, Andras and Ariane are great)) It had so many interesting plot twists and once I got into the book it was impossible to put down, and once I finished I immediately looked for the next one, hoping the storyline continued! "Golden" is a wonderful book for reading on those cold winter nights--A fantastical, yet believable storyline that leaves you wanting more. Probably best suited for adults only, even though it is upper YA/ NA. (4-5 stars) Layla Messing-Barnes & Noble;"Golden" by Kathryn Robson was such a great find! I'm so happy I discovered this author, and I love how long of an ebook it is!! I like that I can really lose myself in the story and with the fascinating characters. Robson's writing is very descriptive and I felt like I was really inside this unique world the author created. I liked that it made me think outside the box and wasn't just another formulaic vampire story. This was really original, I thought, but at the same time comfortingly familiar. My only beef was that it felt like it took too long to get going (even though there is good action at the beginning), for there to be the tension needed to really hook us in to having to keep reading. At times I thought some of Amy's inner narrative went on a bit too long (too much 'telling') and there were some minor editing things I noticed. But despite that I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next book from Kathryn Robson soon. Definitely recommend for fans of YA paranormal & fantasy. (4 stars) Laura Clarke-Barnes & Noble; "Golden" by Kathryn Robson is a really good read with an interesting concept and some of the best narrative and prose I've come across in a long while..... And just when I thought I was done with vampires forever and had read every possible angle they could take. Make no mistake, there are plenty of subplots happening here, At times I almost felt like it was too much, although the author describes it very well, and I know it's instrumental to the overall storyline and with what is happening with the main characters. It's just sometimes seemed like overkill when I would've preferred to maybe see a deeper emotional relationship build between the characters instead. This is a great combination of a character driven literary novel as well as an action-packed one, and there is great energy that whisks us along. The thing that struck me the most was just how genuine and authentic it all came across... most of the time when reading fantasy/paranormal you really feel that you are reading something completely made up. But here it feels almost true-to life. In a frighteningly good way. Curious to see if there will be more books like this and where they will go. The ending seems to leave room open for more, but I don't really see any mention. (4 stars). Jhonni Parker--Goodreads; "GOLDEN" is the first book I've read from this author, but it came highly recommended from a person whose opinion I trust. Not only was I not disappointed, I was even more impressed with it than I'd expected to be! I loved Kathryn Robson's storytelling abilities and style of writing--the distinctive 'voice'. It is so simple and easy to read, but each sentence and page packs so much emotion and imagery that you really get a bang for your buck. "Golden" is an intoxicating work of creativity, passion, sensuality, and imagination. It stretches the boundaries for this type of fiction in new ways that really impressed me. I read paranormal and fantasy all the time, (and a lot of vamp fiction) but this one stood out to me as being exceptionally well written and feeling fresh and original. I finished it in three days which is practically a record for me because I'm a slow reader with not much time and this is a pretty long book. But I couldn't put it down! I was happy with the ending, but I really wish there were more! Recommend for older readers and fans of YA and NA paranormal. (5 stars) Megan King--Goodreads; I do read a lot of books by lesser known authors (I like to give them a chance and maybe discover new talent). But inevitably I'm left disappointed more often than not. But even if Ms. Robson's novel, "Golden" wasn't perfect, it delivered an entertaining ride with complex ideas that pulls you in and makes you emotionally invested whether you want to or not. I enjoyed the author's energetic and passionate writing, but also the characters themselves (even the bad ones) and there are plenty! For the most part the pacing was good, I did think there was too much telling backstory in the beginning with Amy and Andras that slowed it down a bit after the exciting opener, and at times the narrative dragged a bit. But I liked that it was unpredictable and not completely cliché, and I enjoyed it all the way through and thought it was a great New Adult fantasy-romance. (4 stars) Darlene Cupp-Barnes & Noble; I read tons of paranormal novels, so I already had the bar set pretty high in my mind for them. I am so happy that I wasn't at all disappointed with "Golden"! I think I even liked this one a bit more than normal--- I enjoyed the real world/fantasy world blend but still had that strong magical/paranormal element. I loved how I was able to totally lose myself in this unique and imaginative world that is so much fun! Love picturing how the characters (especially Amy) look, and I could totally see this being a movie or something. Hope the series continues! Recommend for fans of NA fantasy and paranormal romance. (4-5 stars) Gillian Hancock--Goodreads"Golden" by Kathryn Robson takes us on a magical and dangerous and sexy journey. The beginning starts innocently enough, but the way the story unfolds and how everything is connected pulls you in and takes you to another world. I have to say I really liked reading this and like the author's writing style a lot. I really felt like I was there in Amy's head (for better or worse) and even though there are some disturbing elements (one scene in particular should have a trigger warning), and the scenes are pretty fantastical, there is a level of believability there that makes reading these books a magical, rewarding, almost surreal experience. I'm happy to have discovered this author and will recommend them to fans of YA fiction, romance, fantasy, and paranormal. (4 stars) Brenda Maxwell--Goodreads; As much as I enjoyed this book, "Golden" I think I also felt like it was a little confusing at times, and the pacing was too erratic. I'm not a fan of all the internal thoughts, (Amy's) as for me that is far too much 'telling' when it should be 'showing'.... It's not as bad as some books I've seen, but I find it tiresome after a while. Also it could benefit from some light proofreading. But I really like the creative take on vampire lore and liked the setting. The writing and the plot is amazing. I do hope that the story will continue as the "Golden" character is a great deal of fun to read about. (3-4 stars) Tabitha Parks-Indie Book Reviewers"Golden" was so unique and original, it really was unlike anything I'd read, and in a good way!! It had so many interesting plot twists and was sexy and dangerously addicting!! Once I got into the book it was impossible to put down, and once I finished I immediately looked for the next one (Where is it??) A must read for fans of paranormal, light romance and New Adult. (5 stars) Essie Harmon--Barnes & Noble;"Golden" is the first book I've read from this author Kathryn Robson, but I certainly hope it's not the last. I appreciate how after the enticing opener, Robson continues to come up with new and imaginative twists, and the action never slows down at all. Even when it does for a bit, it is usually to work on the Character development (Amy) and grant the reader deeper insight into her psyche. So many complex interweaving plotlines keep you guessing, and wow, Daniel is a sexy beast! Love the original myth Robson employs in her vampire/demon/monster lore and while I do wish some backstory could be narrowed down some, I loved reading this and Love Amy and Daniel and hope their story continues on! (4 stars) Darla Ortiz--Goodreads;

From the Inside Flap The day I died was the best day of my lifeIt took everything I hated and destroyed it, leaving faint memories behind.It took me down a road so twisted it disturbed the essence of my being, yet led me to my life, my love, my Daniel.If life is for the living, how can I walk among them?Am I here to protect or to maim and destroy?Have I become what I am because of what I was - has what I was capable of doing as a human opened up the gates into immortality? And if so, who rules eternity? If I give up my eternity for another's, will it take away the pain and guilt I feel crushing my heart from inside,or will it take me straight to hell?

That sucked me in from the first moment I saw it. Secondly, from the very first page, Robson's Golden had me wanting to read more. Lately I've had a bit of a thing against Vampire novels because, to be honest, none have impressed me and come up rather boring. But Golden turned that all around for me. I love the main character, Amy, and I can guarantee you this book has some twists and turns you won't be expecting!I gave Robson's Golden five stars. I loved her writing style. I loved the fast pace of this book. And the characters were well developed. I would read another book by Kathryn Robson any day!

This one has it all, the only one missing is a werewolf, but maybe there will be a second installment with them running amok? Demons, Vampires and a agonizing love interest. Fast paced and well written, loved every second and was reading till the early hours of the morning. Had me gripped from the first page and it did not slow down. Fantastic different spin on Vampirism I haven't seen before, which was very interesting. Definitely would recommend to anyone who liked books like Insurgent, The maze runner, or The Hunger Games
