RED, RED ROSE: Two men, opposites in every way, have somehow found each other. The attraction between blond detective Thomas Fitzgerald and the sable-haired “Professor Burns” is instant and all-consuming. Even cops and scholars take a holiday. When they bridge the physical distance between themselves and finally spend time together on Burns’ own turf, Thomas finds that his mysterious “poet” is a shadow behind another shadow. There’s something about Burns’ past that hangs on him like a shroud. Always a cop, Thomas cannot help looking past his lover’s charms, delving into the heart of him. What he finds is chilling. A tight-lipped Irish cop and an enigmatic Scot come together in a place of sorrow and hidden passion. Can a “red, red rose” from a poet named Burns solve the unknowable mystery of love itself?

I absolutely love the parts in all these books where Thomas and Burns can't keep their hands off each other (among other things), and when their hands aren't on each other, their thoughts are with each other. Ms. O'Quinn ties everything together so very nicely, with stellar use of language like a paintbrush on canvas. I found myself fighting a Scottish burr in my voice for hours after finishing this series :)

By Pinkerbelle Rex The enigmatic love story that began in ‘Burns Too Deep’ and captivated me in ‘The Dundee Law’ escalates to an out-and-out lovefest in ‘Red Red Rose’—much to my delight. Lush, haunting, and romantic, this is a highly erotic yet somehow ethereal tale of two lonely hearts gently unfurling to embrace their mated souls. In this book, Detective Thomas Fitzgerald uses his vacation time to visit the home of his enigmatic lover. Burns’s fairy-tale abode is a far cry from Fitz’s roughshod apartment, and Fitz is initially shocked. But Fitz is a detective, and between passionate bouts of heated pleasure he slowly unravels the history, if not the mystery, of Bobbie Burns, the man he knows he cannot live without. It is assumed that we have five senses and three dimensions, but Erin O’Quinn’s stories always hit me in some strange and wonderful way that make me certain that the supposed twenty-one senses do exist, and that there is indeed a fourth dimension. I love the characters of Fitz and Burns, but it is the way that the author has given them life that steals my breath away time and again. I ached at the dank chill of loneliness within each man’s heart and rejoiced as the heat of passion and trust chased that chill away. What made this story a luscious feast of sensuality and fulfillment for me? Phrases like “He’d become a gray man, in a gray job, living on a street of gray buildings.” The author’s skill at wordplay sent a thrilling rush of recognition to my brain and a tap dance of anticipation somewhere in the region of my heart. I floated through cobbled alleys and misty, rain-scented streets blissfully ignorant of exactly when in Scotland I was, greedily turning the pages to see what answers Fitz could draw from Burns before the fire of their passion made words impossible. And passion? I’m talking sizzling hot, down to the bone, goose-bump-inspiring, and frequent lovemaking scenes. On top of all that lovely, the story’s evocative feel of yesteryear perfectly captured the triumphant melancholy of the Robert Burns poem from whence the author took her title, while creating an ethereal ambiance that successfully conveyed the giddy, surreal headiness of deep romantic love. Part male/male romance, part thrilling erotica, Red Red Rose is an exquisite chapter in a series that is imbued with the eerie cadence of a romantic ghost story. Be prepared to have all of your senses light up… and remain aglow long after the final page has been turned… Uh-huh, afterglow.Thank you, Erin O’Quinn, just… thank you.“Smart, Hot, & Haunting!”

By Greebo Every once in awhile, a book/series comes along, and the characters work their way into your head and your heart, and they grab hold and refuse to let go. Thomas Fitzgerald and Burns (just Burns, although Thomas refers to him has "His Bobbie Burns") are two of those characters. I honestly can't tell you now much I love these men, especially Thomas. Ms. O'Quinn made them perfect...absolutely perfect. I wish I could tell you exactly how much they have touched me. They take my breath away. Their powerful love for one another is so palpable and so...beautiful. I'm sure there are a lot of other words that can describe it, but I'm at a loss.I don't want to give you any spoilers. "Red, Red Rose", and the previous novellas in the "Burns-Fitzgerald Mysteries" series are to be savored...slowly...so you can absorb every nuance. They're pure poetry, but they're also exciting, and oh, so sexy. Gay romance is my genre of choice, but I like my men to be of a certain type. I want them to be strong, smart, and masculine. I want them to love deeply even as they crash together, tongues and teeth gnashing, an erotic wrestling match of sorts, and I want to hear them whisper filthy, yet tender, words to each other. Thomas and Burns give me everything I want and much, much more. All three books tell the tale of our men meeting, falling in love, learning about each other, and even solving a mystery or two. It may feel like everything happened quickly, and in a sense it did, but it wasn't a breakneck speed, and it felt very natural. Sometimes, you know you've met THE ONE, and they certainly are each other's ONE. Watching them fall for each other, long for each other, and then finally just BE together was a joy. Yes, there was angst and some obstacles, but it's a given that they belong together. They know this, and they make it work. Please, please, please read this series. It will move you, I guarantee it. Thomas and Burns are men who will touch your soul. I should add a plea to Erin O'Quinn...give us a sequel or two. The world needs more of these men.
