The Ride of Doom: Star Sapphire and the Landof Gems by author Anthony Pardoe is a children's book with a funprotagonist, a cute talking pebble, and an action-packed tale from start tofinish.There were many enjoyable moments in this book. Star is a charactermost children will be able to identify with and like, as she is a bit feistywhen need be but has a tender heart as well. Jasper the pebble steals theshow with his cute teeth and his bravery, and the connection betweenStar and Jasper is endearing. Author Anthony Pardoe has a brilliantimagination, and I truly did love the scenes with the crystal lights lightingup the tunnel and the funny polished gems tumbling over and over! Theevil gems were done well, and I could see each of these charactersclearly, sparks and all. The gems and characters all had different, distinctvoices and personalities, making The Ride of Doom: Star Sapphire andthe Land of Gems a five-star book. I recommend it to grade school agedchildren who have an interest in gems and rocks, enjoy adventure books,or likereading about unique characters in imaginative places.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Magical By shebeads Star Sapphire and the Land of Gems is nothing short of magical. I was dreading a cross country flight with my rambunctious nine-year-old grandson but once I handed him my Kindle and he started reading about the adventures of Star and Jasper he was glued to his seat for the duration. Afterward, I started reading it myself and although the characters are created for youngsters I found myself captivated by their world of fantasy. It's another Alice in Wonderland. It's a classic in the making.

What an amazing accomplishment! I enjoyed this first volume so much that I needed to read the second volume (the Raging Torrent). I am almost finishing up the second volume and can’t wait to go on the third volume! English is not my native language therefore it takes slightly longer to read these books for me but I am enjoying reading these. Fun for adults, too!
