For a little more than a year, fifteen-year-old Will Conlan has led a secret double life. School and sports quietly cover what very few know-his actions as the government's youngest intelligence operative single-handedly saved Chicago from multiple terrorist attacks. When vengeful radicals learn his identity, though, his relatively secure teenage life gets ripped apart one small piece at a time. Unaware of the hunt against him, Will tries to fix a freshly ruined grade by using his involvement with the Analytic Red Cell to write a report on how to commit the perfect act of terrorism. Unfortunately, the paper only serves to make matters worse. The first setback comes when his girlfriend, Stacey, is kidnapped. And then during a rescue attempt, he learns of a scheme to harm thousands of Big Red fans attending a college football game. All too late, Will realizes his own perfect plot is unfolding against everything he values. In this thrilling sequel to Red Cell, the government's youngest asset is left alone to stop his own plan and escape those who believe in his betrayal. Grades 7-10.

The Betrayal: A Red Cell Novel, by John Kalkowski

Review "Thestory is intelligently plotted and deftly trades between expected developmentsand shocking surprises. The novel becomes engrossing, progressing quickly, andwhen Will finally arrives at the stadium, it is almost impossible to put down."--Foreword Clarion ReviewsFull Review: forewordreviews.com/reviews/the-betrayal/

From the Back Cover Going to the stadium alone would put his life indanger. The only people in the world who even remotely would give him a chanceto survive were sitting before him. And even Agent Tenepior had revealed hisdoubt. Rubbing his sore neck, Will continued to bendover in his chair. Everything had gotten so messed up. His grades were ruined, his girlfriend taken from him, his identity spread throughout radicalcommunities, and he had been attacked twice. This terrorist had destroyed hislife in less than two days. Only by luck had he so far survived. Why would he expect this time to be different? Was it even possible to rescue his girlfriend, halt a possible terroristattack, and end up making it out alive? He was only a kid--a kid who so far wasnot winning this battle. And no matter how hard these intelligence officersprepared to neutralize the risks, it was pretty obvious he would be walkingstraight into a trap.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Worthy Follow Up; a Little Short By J@hn P I loved Red Cell. I liked the mix of action and depiction the everyday life of the main character, Will. I eagerly awaited the follow up. I found it similar to the original and enjoyed it. I was a little disappointed at the length, especially considering the length of time since the first book. I will definitely be in line for the next installment.
