From the Author This book, like The Beast of the North, is part of the Stories of the Nine Worlds. It was superbly fun to write and leans heavily towards the old Germanic and Norse mythologies, with a healthy dose of imagination thrown in. It will feature dark fantasy bits and pieces, there will be brutal battles, we shall see elemental magic and wondrous beasts. There will be twists and betrayal and unexpected resolutions to the hero's problems. If these things appeal to you, you should definitely try it.
About the Author I am Alaric Longward, a dad, a husband, and a writer. I have studied history, religions, and myths pretty much all my life. I mainly create furious adventure stories within the historical fiction and fantasy genres, though I plan to try my hand in sci-fi and horror as well. By Cynthia Ludewig The Dark Levy is a fine example of modern coming-of-age urban fantasy. When the story begins we are presented to a mundane setting and to a girl in her late teens called Shannon. Apparently her world doesn’t have anything different from ours, she’s bullied at school, she’s insecure, shy, and flirts with thoughts of suicide, she can’t experience joy, she feels like something is missing in her, a constant void, which is increased by her sister’s glowing presence. Dana, the younger sister, is joyful, confident and liked by others. Shannon’s character is highly developed and complex. Her descriptions of how she feels towards her sister and her honesty when she talks about her own weaknesses are astonishing. In this sense, the main character definitely isn’t a “Mary Sue”.The plot thickens when we are presented to her Grandmother on a very special day. Grandma decides to reveal some well-hidden secrets about old beings and a bridge to another world. Understandably, Shannon is skeptical at first, but she knows that something of her Grandma’s stories might be true, especially because she can explain the reason for the ever-lasting darkness she feels inside of her. Shannon also finds out that her sister isn’t so different from herself, in a very gruesome way…When they cross to the hidden world it’s when things start to turn really interesting, at this point of the story I was already hooked and I couldn’t put the book down anymore.As for style, Alaric Longward really explores the lexical possibilities of a fantasy book, without being verbose or pompous. We can feel that his choice of vocabulary is absolutely necessary to build the world he imagined, and to create the appropriate dialogues and general climate of the book. The lexical is diversified, and despite being more sophisticated than the average, the reading pace isn’t affected, since the flow and readability are preserved.Another thing that I liked was how the book stands on its own. It won’t leave the reader on a cliffhanger, waiting for the next installment of the Ten Tears Chronicles. That being said, I’m looking forward for the next book. 5 out of 5 stars, awesome novel!

By LHarrison I love this genre it is my favourite so I have a lot of books to compare this to and this one was definite competition for some of my faves. The author has a wonderful way of bringing the characters to life for the reader and the description of Aldheim put a vividly wonderous picture in my head. Kudos Alaric good work! Please don’t wait too long to give us another, as I for one will be waiting patiently. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that has a love of fantasy and intrigue….YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!!
3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great story concept and story telling By tim Great story concept and story telling. A little slow in development with a lot of background information early on, but that vital information helps carry the story along later on in the story. Dark story, but very interesting. Violence, sexual content, and explicit language are used throughout the book, but that does not bother my sensibilities as those same topics are covered in numerous literary masterpieces (and other great and not so great books) throughout history. The author has done a fine job of establishing the magical system and defining the benefits and limits in the system. The story is set up to follow a few story arcs in future books. A little bit of editing issues, but it does not hinder the landscape of the story. This book will be a little to dark for some people, so if you do not like books that incorporate violence, sexual innuendo, strong language and challenging of religious beliefs into the story then this is not the book for you as it will only result in some undeserved negative reviews of the book. However, if you are a open minded reader looking for a great story full of possibilities then I encourage you to pick up this book.
