Gilbert I like the book, as I said it is an interesting story and has historical facts about the west and the north country. Good reading.

Newman Although I love the story of Bannack, Montana and the 1860s gold rush, this book, that I approached with interest, was truly a disappointment to say the least. There was apparently little research done by the author, but most of all, it was written in such a poor manner that I often chuckled out loud. For example, he overly uses proper nouns where simple pronouns like "he" and "they" would be much more appropriate. Perhaps he thinks the readers have very short term memories. There is also very much redundancy of subplots and quite a bit of unnecessary storyline. I do not recommend this book if you love history.

All I really needed to know is if there were any human survivors. Plugging this shit hole with a few penetrator nukes would leave me sleeping like a baby. If the Terabuel Collective wanted to recruit Werekin for their fledgling army, they sure as hell sent the wrong person. “More food for the larder,’’ a scary sounding Werekin growled. “You have others like me here?” it was all I really wanted to know. I hated Werekin almost as much as I hated Tremon. “Food doesn’t speak, it whimpers for its life,” it said as a rifle butt slammed into my back, sending me to the ground. “I am an emissary for the Terabuel Collective,” I gasped. “I have an offer for your pack.” The legal binder ordering me to make the offer, done and recorded on my implant. I smiled. Now it was play time. I saw human foot prints on the ground as I was being dragged back towards their den. Fuck. The hard way, then. I need to find a better job.

I had high hopes for the next book in the series. Pack Leader did not disappoint. The author created an interesting imaginary world. Drake Collins is a seriously flawed hero, but he's also loyal and willing to go to any length to accomplish his goals. He makes unpopular decisions and sacrifices to ensure that the human world survives. Sefia is an amazing heroine. She's faithful, strong and a sensible calming force for Drake. The secondary characters enhanced the story, especially Jarvald and Tammy. I enjoyed the witty back and forth banter. It was fascinating how the different species related to one another and the steps they would take to insure that their species not only survived but ruled.Pros: compelling worldbuilding, complex characters, political intrigue, backstabbing, lots of action, well-written battle scenes, vivid scenery, laugh out loud humorCons: I can't think of a single oneI would highly recommend this story to all sci-fi lovers or anyone looking for a great read. I will definitelyread the next book in the series.

It was a dark and misty (and very surreal) night in London By S Mazey It is a dark and misty night in London and Professor Felix Einstein has just arrived at the London Explorers Club. A few minutes later Lord Benjamin Carstairs arrives carrying a small wooden ship. Following a small mishap involving an indoor fountain and a lot of broken wood the two explorers leave the club, secretly watched by a group of mysterious cloaked men.Soon the two adventurers begin to discuss a strange phenomenon that is taking place. The moon is slowly revolving to reveal its hidden face. As a result the world is being plagued by unseasonable weather. Professor Einstein wonders if the movement of the moon could be related to the mythology of an ancient race, the Duterian Empire as an ancient Duterian artefact indicates that the turning of the moon ushers in the returning Squid God.Soon Einstein and Carstairs find themselves in the middle of a fantastic adventure. Pursued by disciples of the Squid God they fight a desperate battle to save the world before the time of the god's return. However, while the adventurers are away, who will save London from the rampaging "squiddies"?At first this story reads like a classic Victorian melodrama, rather reminiscent of a Sherlock Holmes tale. However within a page or so it develops into a unique fantasy/comedy with a style of it's very own.The main characters are larger than life and brighter than technicolour. Professor Felix Einstein reads like an ageing Indiana Jones with less philanthropic tendencies. Einstein thinks nothing of breaking into the Vatican to steal an artefact or acquiring other priceless relics via less than reputable sources. Lord Carstairs is a boys-own hero. You can see his square jaw aneetred stiff upper lip clearly between the lines of the story.The story is truly fantastic (in both senses). It is necessary to take a step out of reality and accept certain things as fact, especially when learning of the artefacts held in Professor Einstein's museum.I found the whole novel utterly compelling. It was nigh on impossible to put the book down despite being in desperate need of sleep. In fact Steve (husband) must have grown totally sick of me digging him in the ribs just to read another section from the story.As an English woman I especially enjoyed the over-the-top characterisations of the Victorian gentry, in particular the Explorers Club's Ladies Auxiliary. This group of ladies show what makes an English gentlewoman - the ability to provide cups of tea, buttered crumpets and muffins whilst taking pot-shots at the enemy with an elephant gun and debating the various uses of barbed wire (don't ask me for more details - just read the book and you will understand).All in all this is a hell of a story. Funny, compelling and an absolute pleasure to read. The finest comedy/fantasy I have read this year.

Tongue-and-cheek humor and a fresh and fast-paced narrative By Midwest Book Review Set in Victorian England in the year 1881, That Darn Squid God is an hilarious parody of the otherworldly mythos of H. P. Lovecraft, strewn with delightful trappings of mystery and magic. Two British explorers must race against time before a prehistoric squid god rises again to destroy the world, which would after all be a ghastly inconvenience. Tongue-and-cheek humor and a fresh and fast-paced narrative style set apart That Darn Squid God as a fantastically funny end-of-the-world ride.

However, these two have a couple huge obstacles standing in their way.Heroine is being caged by her pack because they want to force her to be a breeder for them. She tried escape while the pack is in chaos due to bad leadership before but they found her and dragged her back. She manages to escape but two wolves are after her. Hero and heroine get to know each other, and form a connection. However, heroine is not willing to put hero in danger and flees. Hero is not willing to give up his mate and goes after her.Even after hero saves heroine again, there is one last obstacle they have to face before they can have their HEA. This obstacle is the hardest because it means having to conquer self doubts and internal fears. This was a good read. The action and suspense was well written. The love scenes were nicely written, but not anything erotic. The chemistry between hero and heroine is good. I enjoyed reading secondary characters, and found out heroine's brother has his own book as well. It is a safe read. There are no OW or OM. Hero was heroine's first. I would recommend this unique shifter story. You do get HEA and nice epilogue. Safe read.

This trilogy is fascinating, utterly engrossing, with characters the reader can identify with, heroes and heroines who are dedicated to doing the right thing is politically-complex, often deadly circumstances. If you like adventure and action thrillers that actually make you think, and occasionally challenge your beliefs, look no farther.

A Cautionary Tale By Phil Castelucci Whether the Balkanisation of America is something you fear or something you hope for,Billy Roper's trilogy can be viewed as either a terrifying end or a brave new beginning.It may either be a work of fiction or something that has already started.Either way,it will entertain as well as make you reflect on the path and ultimate destination of the races and the future of our own people.The characters are believable,as are their motivations,which is something lacking in many books of this genre.I found myself cheering for them at times and grieving for their hurts.A book that makes me think while it entertains is what I always hope for each time I begin a new one.This time I found three.Now if you will excuse me,I have a few more Billy Roper books to read.

Walters Omega Reign works with the premise of an "apocalyptic" event and the reaction of various superheroes and supervillains as they try to adapt to a world that no longer needs them or, in the case of the supervillains, a world that no longer gives them a challenge in their criminal escapades. In addition to those two camps are a few 'neutral' supers who are trying to get by with their anonymity intact. There are a few curve balls that Mr. Coffin throws in the works about the nature of certain heroes superpowers and how they change in conjunction with the event. One conflict in particular that occurred before the event was a determining factor in the current lines drawn between the supers is particularly interesting... I would rather not go into too much detail as it would ruin some of the revelations in the book as well as the various questions and mysteries that blossom in its pages that I encourage readers to discover on their own. This is the first book in a series and I eagerly await the next installment.

Superhuman and Human, Omega Reigns By Joe Pace With "Omega Reign", Bill Coffin has explored the superhero trope as only a true believer can, in a brisk and wonderful read that pays equal homage to the Marvel classic "Secret Wars" and Stephen King's "The Stand". His non-quite-Earth is populated with an imaginative (and brilliantly-named) menagerie of super-folk, both "capes" (good guys) and masks (bad guys) locked in the constant and eternal tug of war that will be familiar to comic readers and moviegoers alike. Coffin takes advantage of the literary format to delve into the psyches of his omega-powered protagonists, granting operatic depth and humanity to his characters. It feels like the opening salvo of a longer, more complicated skein, and if this first act is any indication, we're in for a heck of a ride.
