"Until recent times, Calumet County had never been known as a place of killing and violence..."A peaceful valley in the mountains of Colorado becomes a battleground pitting the federal government against a rural sheriff's department. Beleaguered Sheriff Bear Ellison finds himself outnumbered, over-matched, and increasingly isolated as he is forced to decide between risking his life protecting a local hero, or reneging on his oath and handing him over to federal prosecutors.

Oathkeeper, by Troy Grice Review James Dakin, BisonPrepper.com:"All the magic in his other book (Indivisible) is here. This too shall be a re-reader for me, and I can't give a book a better compliment." Joe Nobody, Author of the Best-selling Holding Their Own Series:"Well-paced with likable characters, the author manages to put the reader into the midst of the dilemmas..." Aaron Turpen, MilitantLibertarian.org and AaronTurpen.com:"Another great one from Troy Grice...focused on an issue that, frankly, is likely to become a real-life drama sometime soon." D. Buxman, Amazon Top 500 Reviewer:"A fast paced, well-written book that kept me entertained throughout." Ed Sutton, President, Evergreen Tea Party:"Outstanding!" Future Grandpa, Amazon Top 1000 Reviewer:"It's been the longest time since I really cared for a character in a story, but this author was really able to make me empathize with this veteran/hero crushed under the most horrific of circumstances." Col. Douglas Thornblom, Author of Defending Sea Breezes:"A fascinating and all too credible story."
From the Author Oathkeeper is something of a modern western, a tale of violence and nihilism blended into an Impressionist landscape. The characters are morally conflicted, narcissistic, and flawed (not unlike myself, ha!). My antagonists are projections of the darkest aspects of myself.Consider yourself forewarned! Oathkeeper is a statement on the militarization and federalization of law enforcement, and the ever-expanding bureaucracy that exists by exploiting the government-contrived boogieman of illegal drugs. It also addresses the subjective, selective, arbitrary, and contradictory nature of The Law, as well as what last recourse there is against it, namely: nullification. If you are looking for what blogger James Dakin describes as "(expletive)-tingling uber-patriotism," you will probably be disappointed. There are no invincible Rambos in here, just men struggling to survive and find purpose in the last days of a dying empire. In the words of my favorite anti-federalist, the prescient Thomas Jefferson:"Our country is now taking so steady a course as to show by what road it will pass to destruction, to wit: by consolidation of power first, and then corruption, its necessary consequence."

By Steve I picked this up as it was offered for free for a couple of days in digital format. EXCELLENT! A very well written book with several twists and turns. The final paragraph was awesome. Great ending. Being familiar with the area the story is set in made it even more enjoyable. I found the story suspenseful and it is a page turner for sure. The characters were well developed and could exist among us today. I mean that they weren't superheroes or out of the realm of reality. I had no problems reading it on my Kindle. The grammar was good and the story flowed very nicely. I look forward to more from this author.

The characters are well-developed for such a short book and the story line is timely. Sadly, there are very few sheriffs that understand their role under the Constitution and, as such, we have a proliferation of federal abuses that should not be tolerated in a free society. If you are a Hillary or Bernie supporter, I wouldn't recommend this book. I look forward to more offerings from Mr. Grice.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Beware - you might not be able to stop reading! By J. Hines I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, it was hard to put down. I read Goldstein a few years back and it was okay but not particularly memorable. Oathkeeper is going to stay with me a long time because it is a great action story with very well developed characters. I enjoyed the suspense of not knowing how things were going to turn out and there is enough of an edge to be quite satisfying. All along the way I found myself wondering if I would have the fortitude to do the right thing and struggled along with the characters.Sadly, this book is VERY realistic and if you don't find it so - you aren't paying attention! "The Rule of Law" is on life support in these United States. Good job Mr. Grice in making a good story while provoking thought.
